New to me 2015 LX. Having analysis paralysis on wheel/tires. I have stock 20"x8.5" 45mm offset wheels on it now and a set of Tundra take offs 18"x8" 60mm offset. Look for anything that can help me decide between:

1. Keep OEM 20" wheels and go with Falken Wildpeak AT3 305/55 r20 (33.2"x12.5") like @TeCKis300 use to run
2. Switch to Tundra take offs and Falken Wildpeak AT3 275/70 r18 (33.4" x 11.0")
3. Other ideas?

I originally did not like the factory wheels, but now they are growing on me.

Your stock 20” wheels are the same offset as the Tundra wheels. your options 1 and 2 a fairly different. Either is fine, I’d order some 1” spacers and run which ever you want. With either you will most likely need to do some plastic work in front wheel wells, and you’ll want to verify your spacers work with your wheels. Might have to go with 1.25 if you don’t want to get into modifying the wheels’s hub face.

Been lurking around for quite some time but first time poster.

We recently purchased a 2019 LX and the 21' wheels just aren't going to cut it (performance and cost). This is my wife's truck so 3/4 will be highway but I need a little more tire to handle dirt roads and highway hazards.

What are some good tire/wheel specs for a plug & play install? All of the offsets and spacer stuff is all new to me...

Thank you

For plug and play:

The easiest button is to get some 2016+ LC takeoffs (check the classifieds) and run one of the below tires.

285/60R18 (LC OEM)
275/65R18
285/65R18 (this may require some research to see if it clears the control arm without a wheel spacer to decrease offset)

If you start shopping aftermarket, you want 5x150 +25mm to +45mm offset and the same tires or the 17"/20" equivalents depending on which wheel you get.

Thanks for reply. I ordered some BORA 1" spacers and I think I am going to go with the Tundra wheels (though I will have several weeks to go back and forth in my head due to the wait time for the spacers).

Hard to beat take offs. If you don’t want take off’s though:

Method 705 +35 17’s and bfg k02 285 70 r17 load c are the way to go imo.

Lightweight, perfect offset, aesthetically pleasing.

Hey folks, I was thinking of staggered fitment: 275 55 20 fronts, 305 50 20 rears, the diameter is 0.1 inches or 3 mm different, which can be compensated for by playing w tire pressures easily

What do you guys think ?

Should work just fine and the overall diameter is so close that it won't make any difference to the 4WD system.

Question would be why? Stock weight bias is slightly forward. With the stock square fitment, the chassis naturally understeers.

Heads up that there are a MASSIVE amount of shill posts and reviews about tires. Reddit is particularly bad. Add in that most people only buy one maybe two sets of tires in a vehicles life, so most real comments are comparing worn out oem junk tires to new tires.

I went with toyo at23, stock size. Super happy. Aggressive but not obnoxious looking. Shockingly quiet. 3 peak rated. Not made in china.

Do you mean you went with toyo at3?

How does it ride vs the stock 20’s you used to have?
Definitely noticed the added weight. Need to accelerate little harder… brake a little sooner… and it shaved half a mpg.

The biggest difference for me was at 70 to 80, the ride gets unwieldy on bumpy roads so I find myself switching from sport to comfy.

Alright help me out with my thinking. I currently have stock LX570 20" wheels with 285/50/r20 Nitto Ridge Grapplers. Nitto's in that size are like 51 lbs.

I'm looking at the Icon Recons Pros which are 32lbs and the Falken Wildpeak AT4 which are in the C or E rating which both are 65.4 lbs. Am I crazy to go that much more in weight? Will it wear things out faster or create some rough dynamics?

New tire time! Was out wheeling this past weekend and tore a hole in the sidewall.

Currently have the tires/wheels I bought the truck with - 275/65-18 on 2016+ LC wheels. Stock 2009 LX570 suspension. My truck is mostly my daily driver, occasional tow vehicle, and occasional wheeler (this was only my second time out). I am deciding between a 275/70-18 (most likely the WildPeak AT4/W) and a 285/70-18.

The 275/70-18 WildPeaks only come in E-rating and measure out to 33.4" tall while the 285/70-18 WildPeaks only come in C-rating and measure out to 34" tall, so the additional off-road clearance seems negligible. With the +56mm offset of the 2016 wheels, it sounds as if I might be able to avoid spacers, though I would get some if necessary, plus plastic-work. I kind of like the idea of a wider tire as it matches the stock width and hope it would reduce the damage to my wheels off-road (I've already scratched them up a lot). However, it's a lot easier to find a tire in the 275/70-18 size. The guys I go out with mostly have 34-35" tires.

I would appreciate any other thoughts or insights. Thanks!

Give a look at the Kenda RT in 33x18x10.5.

Ive been running Kenda Klever RTs in theb35x10.50r17 size on multiple rigs (gx470/460) without issues. Awesome tire. When I got my 14 LX 2 years ago, I was exited to install these too. So I did, on icon vector 5 wheels which have +25 offset. However, they never been as trouble-free as they were on the two other rigs. I get vibration at higher speeds around 70, and slightly uneven tire wear. Ive had them road forced several times and each time they've needed minimal balancing with low force numbers, which is supposed to be a good sign. Suspension components that matter have all been replaced with oem parts. Ive had it aligned twice, with the second time confirming the first realignment after the tires were installed, was good and no real changes were needed. I suspect that the variable geometry changes that happen at speed as the vehicle rates and lowers itself is impacting wear on these tires. Also, being that they are almost a full inch narrower than stock, maybe thats also affecting ride quality/handling. Im experiencing symptoms that others with wider tires aren't. The combined weight of these kendas and the icons are roughly 98lbs at each corner, which is about 21-24lbs more per corner vs stock.

My new goal is to try and achieve a bigger tires vs stock but maintain close to stock width. Also dropping down to an AT from the RT. Looking at going with the Toyo Open Country AT3s in 285/75r17 LT/C. These should be just shy of an inch shorter than the Kendas, which are actually 34.7 in tall uninstalled, and be wider by almost a full inch bringing me back in line with the stock 11.3 wide 285/55r20s. Im hoping the small drop in height and wider footprint will alleviate some of the symptoms. One thing I've always experienced after moving to the narrower kendas is traction control activating when slowing down to turn onto a street (during the actual cornering, it will activate for a split second). It also does this off road when a tire drops into a dip at slow speeds (under 8 mph). The kendas are a D load range whereas the Toyos are a C. The LX suspension settings are also less evident on the Kendas vs the stock wheel/tire combo.

Im disappointed that my experience with these doesnt match up with my previous experience on the other rigs. My conclusion is that what is making the difference here is the LX is much heavier and has hydraulic suspension vs the lighter 04 GX and newer 460 I had these tires on. Both had upgraded suspensions (470 was on Dobinsons MRR with heavy springs in the rear and 460 was on Dobinsons IMS with medium springs all around). As mentioned in the beginning of the post, the LX has new lca/uca's, front oem 10mm strut spacer, rear 20mm spring spacers, ee offroad shock height relocation spacer, drkdss panhard correction, and max sensor lift all around. All of that should technically have the AHC happy and close to stock pressures.
