I just put the best halogen bulbs I could in (based on input from Daniel Stern) and have zero regrets.

Tungsram +120 55w for H1 low beam
Toshiba HIR1 65w for high beam
Flosser 55w H3 Selective Yellow for fogs

This setup works great until I can find money to throw away on a SC430 retrofit.
I ordered the Tungsram +120 H1 and will give those a try

I bought the Hikari LEDs and dust boots, and installed them last night. I got a really wacky beam pattern though, each light puts out 2 squares of very intense light right at winshield level of oncoming cars. The bulbs seem to only fit in one way with the groove in the housing, did I miss something or could this be because I have the earlier glass housings?

Also, the barn door is a different color than the building, the headlights do actually match in color despite how that photo looks

Those 4 spots are the Toyota/Lexus “squirrel finders”.

Amazing. Thank you. I didn't even notice them with the factory bulbs.

I see in this retrofit thread, they were blocked with aluminum ducting tape, I'll have to see if that is accessible from the rear tonight. Even if they're supposed to be there, I parked the LX and drove my Corolla by it and that low, it was blinding with the LEDs. I wanted to give my own empty LX a middle finger. Bulb length must be directing more light through them.

The squirrel finders are not accessable without removing the projectors unfortunately.
They do aim higher than most vehicles though.

I messed around with these bulbs some more, I didn’t realize the retainer base that clips in was removable at first. I clamped that in first then put the bulbs in 180 degrees from where they were and the squirrel finders are much less apparent now. Definitely tolerable.

Was wondering if anyone replaced their high beams with Hikari bulbs, and how that worked? Also would I need the aftermarket dust caps for them? (I assume I would)
High beams don't need dust caps.
Don't know about Hikari but I've got 9005 Moritomo 2strokes in the high beams and they're great.

Could you explain how to unclip and rotate the retainer base in order to adjust the bulbs 180°?

I put the Hikari bulbs in and so far I'm unsure that I'm getting good results

Don't know about those, but the LED fog bulbs I bought for my LX looked good but they didn't produce really any light. The incandescent is way better.
I can confirm the same, the led H3 bulbs don't output nearly as much light as a good set of incandescent bulbs in the fog lights

For your brights use a Toshiba HIR1 9011 rated for 2530 lumens. You will need to trim the tab on the bulb but they are outstanding and meant to work in the reflector housing.

These Koito projectors and reflectors get crapped on here a lot. Run an actual good incandescent bulb like a Tungsram or the above Toshiba. Sure it’s not LS430 projector output but its far better than is commonly talked about.

Are you still liking them? I purchased some Fahren h1 and 9005 bulbs because they were the best seller on Amazon to try but I don't think they are that much better than stock. I was going to try Hikari next.

That doesn't look very good at all.

I changed up to the "HIKARI 2023 Future 30000LM" and they are awesome. Much better than the DDM I was running before. Highly recommended

No that is what I was thinking. I'm going to send them back. Do you have any pictures with the new Hikari bulbs? Also are you still liking the morimotos for the high beams?

Morimoto still solid for 9005.

DDM was still a good bulb, but the Hikari clearly puts out more light under the cutoff. DDM has a shadow right in the middle of the beam.
DDM on left, Hikari on the right
