Christo - I'm just a little curious where in BC interior were the trails?

Can you name some of the towns near where you went off of pavement?

I don't know why I care but this is my backyard playground and curious where ARB would take guys.

Thanks

Riley

Beautiful truck Christo. Will you selling those rear bumpers and tire carrier for the 100?

Riley, there is a good write-up in this monhts Toyota Trails. (see www.tlca.org for info if you are not a member)

We did the Whipsaw trail, Divident Trail and Mud Lake.

CruisinGA? What does only 1/5th larger than a 1FZFE mean? Are you saying there is not much of a difference between the 2 motors?

There are differences in the 2 motors:

l-6 V-8
4.5 lt. 4.7 lt
212 hp 235 hp an increase of 10.8%
275 lb-ft 320 lb-ft an increase of 16.4%

All that while using LESS gas !!!

Yezzzz, exactly. It's 200cc.

I think though CruisinGA was incinuating that the V8 wasn't much of a big deal over the 6? I also notice he owns two 80's (he's a good man!). If he thinks though...wait, if you think, CruisinGA, that the V8 isn't that much more powerful than the 6, then it's obvious you've never driven one for long or put one through the paces.

Even with 35's and stock gearing (a 12% loss from stock), my 100 can wipe an 80 with gears and a S/C and does it in complete silence and smoothness. Did I misunderstand your "1/5 litre" statement?

Todd: Christo's tried, I've tried, what about your TTrails power? How could we 100 owners get together and send an email or something to Randy's R&P listing all the drivers who want a 4.88 rear gear made for the 100? Ideas? (You da man!)

I think CruisinGA just meant that the 4.7L engine is 1/5 liter (200c) larger than the 4.5L engine, and which he is completely correct. It's somewhat interesting how smaller engines are the norm now, it useto be that nobody would drive a truck with even a 5 liter engine, it was lame, you needed atleast a 5.7 (350/351), or a 7.5L engine. However with this V8 engine, at only 4.7L it cranks out tons of power and tons of torque, very well designed, it acts/feels larger than it is, and the whole better gas mileage thing just pisses me off. My sister's '99 Cruiser gets like 17mpg, my '97 (granted lifted, big tires, etc) get like 13...and she has WAY more power than mine ever did...argh...

It's like when the 1FZ-FE came out and put the venerable old 3FE to pasture, but (gasp) it was a twin-cam 4-valve-per-cylinder engine! What blasphemy!

One thing I don't like about the 2UZ-FE is that they replaced the chain with a belt. Must be the Lexus influence (since that's where it was developed). And (at least in the U.S.) we get that stupid box air filter, like it was a regular CAR or something! In Oz their 2UZ-FEs get a regular cyclonic filter box and element. Oh well, nitpicking...

you all forget that the 100 series also comes with 4.3 gearing in the earlier years that adds to the pep of the vechicle. also v engines tend to rev more freely in the rpm range, torque and Hp delevop later in the rpm band. Stock vs stock the 100 series will walk away. But it is really hard for me to believe a SC 80 is blowen away by a stock 100. But wait the SC 80 is handicaped by being a trail machine, bigger tires, armor but regeared. That really is no match. I do love the 100 series cheering section, it builds the growth of cruisers for those that follow.Later model years of 80 stock match the early years of 100's MPG. Better computer in the 100 series manage the tranny and engine to get better performance and fuel milage. It would be interesting to see someone's real world fuel milage with the v-8 and 5 speed. I think this truck went back to 4.10 gearing and should net better mid range power and better fuel ecomany. Toyota cruiser experment. later robbie
