My understanding of Medeco locks is that the cylinder can be changes at any time, then keys can be cut to match, so there are no "key numbers". The type of locks I have are M3 freedom. Other than the patent number, there are no numbers on the keys.

Yes the cylinder and key can be interchanged. The key code is associated with a cut combination. All Medeco locks, when new, are supposed to have a key code associated with it. You absolutely do NOT want the key code physically on the key. Defeats the purpose.

Update time. Today is bitter sweet. Got the call that the LX450 LockBoxes were done and ready to be picked. By "done" I mean out of manufacturing. I still have tumbling, welding, powder coat, etching, packaging, etc.
So I'm signing for my order and notice that I have a qty of boxes and lids. But only one listing. That's strange. I open up all the boxes and inspect all the pieces. Ugh. They only made the tall boxes and none of the small ones. To make matters worse, the entire qty made was for the small and tall combined. Now I have way too many tall. I don't think I could sell all of these in six months. Such a huge bummer.
So they will try and run me off another batch next week for the small but I need to submit a new PO for those. Why is this so hard?!?! Ugh.
I was also going to pick up the machined threaded spacers but he is out til Monday. Argh!!!

It doesn't do what I want. The whole thing should lift up but all the different things we keep trying isn't netting the result I want. If I got the next larger spring then it means cutting into the material because it'll be larger than the knuckle and that brings new issues.
Is this the same spring as the original lock box for the 80s? I replaced mine with a spring that was nearly twice as long (and had to cut off one tab in the hinge as you note) and it sort of stays open now but does not "spring" open when unlocked still.

Sure but then security gets sacrificed. The steel gets spot welded to the hinge. Both aluminum and carbon fiber would need to be screwed or riveted. Both can be drilled out very quickly. At this point I can't both afford to re-engineer the hinge/lid design nor do I want to keep you guys waiting on me to be fussy. I've had MANY of the original design ship out without issue. I will be adding a second spring which helps but I think I need to accept that it won't be what I wanted. But thats ok. I hope.

This particular product has been hell and testing my patience. Grrr
The lids, for the tall LX boxes are done. Had to recut the lids because they had the wrong keyhole. But lids done and going into tumbling again. Just waiting on the newest batch of hinges to come in. I'm getting tired of waiting

Every project I make is not what I wanted just as I'm wrapping it up. I'm on version 3.0 as I'm putting 1.0 into service. Look at Dyson vacuum, I think the first one to market was version 147 or something. When our version 1.0 box is an antique collectable, the unfortunate souls with version 15.0 won't appreciate them anyway

Ok quickie update. All of the boxes and lids are done and ready to be welded then powder coated. Everything is in boxes now just waiting on the hinges and then it's go time. I'm on my way now to pick up the rest of the Medeco order with the black locks. Everything is in place and ready to go as soon as the hinges arrive. Unfortunately there isn't much I can do right now until the hinges show up. The shop said they have some open time if I need anything done so I may do another run of the Scout lockbox since I wouldn't have to wait too long. I bought extra hinges anyway so I wouldn't have to wait that much longer.
