This I found why the stopped to make the 4.7 L TRD Supercharger:
mid 300 horsepower (220 kW) range and torque to the 400 lb·ft (540 N·m) range.

They make that kw and 80 odd more Nm at the wheels with the Bullet kit tuned properly, and exhaust.

After heavy vibrations in the middle console on my LX470 we found the reason for those unpleasant vibrations!

To make the story short, the reason was that the torque converter was worn out and a specialized workshop has repaired it. My LX 470 has only a millage of 63.000 Km (39.500 Miles).:crybaby:

I asked the owner of the workshop why the torque converter was worn out and he answered that “your car has too much power”. :frown:

Now the car is running fine without any problems and I would like to emphasized here that at least related to my car the Supercharger causes gearbox problems.

I repaired the gearbox already two times and subsequently we I installed an oil cooler in order to eliminate the overheating problem.

Now it was the torque converter!

I'm surprised that I have read nothing from other car owners with a super charger installed in respect to the transmission! It seems that I'm the only one having such problems after installing the supercharger!

However, now the problem has been repaired and my LX 470 with the additional power provides a very nice ride! :steer:

Thanks for posting about your experience. Where did you find the oil cooler? What year is your LX? Is it the 5-speed or 4-speed?

Surprised and not surprised that 100hp would put that much more heat into the tranny. Guess the torque converter finally let go after the same overheating events that caused the tranny's to go.

The Hundy's already come stock with a transmission cooler. Did you piggyback another or did you replace it with a larger unit? Hopefully with the added tranny cooler, you'll be in better shape but you may want to get a transmission oil temp gauge just in case.

I wonder what tranny the middle east diesels are using in their 600+ hp setups.

I've truly been tempted to boost my LX470 as well, but I don't have much time these days with two kids. I use to fabricate and install turbo's and tune other Lexus models (GS, IS) and the LX would be pretty easy to mod with a low boost unit like yours. Something like a Rotrex type S/C may even be easier to fit and intercool.

You can make a realiable and efficient setup and sell them as kits. And put my name as a first customer.

Hallo Reckless

October-2004; Japanese Specification 5 speed gearbox.

The oil cooler:
I bought and have had it installed in the transmission repair shop here in Bangkok.

To make the repair story complete, the torque converter was repaired by using a half automated MIG Welding system (Cladding) and subsequently machining.

I hope that the used welding material has a better heat and force resistance than the original material of the torque converter.

What's the 0-60 mph approx timing on your sc v8? Can u please post a video of how it goes aswell if possible. Thanks

Hallo SaadUK

As I stated herein before my LX470 has a:

Bulletcar Supercharger
DT Headers,
Taylor made performance Exhaust
Unichip Box (ECU Tuning)

22 inch wheels with tires 305/45/22

I have never measured the time during the acceleration 0-100, because the car is jumping up during it's acceleration when it changes from the first to the second gear speed so I have to hold on to the steering wheel tight!

One day I have to do it and try to make a video.

Werner, do you have a way to read the transmission temperature? If not, there is already a temperature probe in there, just need a way to read it. Some have had success with the scan gauge but I'm sure there are other devices that can do it.

I would not think an SC would kill your torque converter under normal operating conditions. Personally, if I was living out in Thailand, I'd first question the skill level of the mechanics/technicians :)

Who installed the tranny cooler? Did they plumb it correctly? Did they know there is a transmission heater (in the radiator) as well? Did they use Toyota WF fluid? Did they know the proper way to check the fluid level cuz there is no dipstick?

Take a look at this document on your transmission.
