Fj40 on 37x12.5x17 pit bull rocker radials, sprung over 100" wb atlas 350 arb's 4.56's. Took a trip to robilios off road park this weekend and had a great time. Problem I was having was getting the tires to hook. Ran them at 6 psi and they just didn't want to climb. They squatted ok but on he sandstone and loose stuff they wouldn't climb. they are 10 ply load range E. Thinking maybe they need locks or maybe switching to a bias? any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks

I run the same tire except for 15 instead of 17 . I run about 8-10 psi depending on which guage I use . I also figured out low and slow works for me on limestone hills , I set the hand throttle and let it climb . I live in Fla so limestone is about all we have , yes there is some hills here ( Hard Rock Off Road Park , Ocala Fla ). I wouldn't trade the pitbulls , I have wheeled it in Ga , Tenn. , Ala.. The guy I bought it from has wheeled it almost everywhere including Alaska where he bought it. That's my 2 cents worth I sure others have opions .

I have 37x13.50R15 bias ply Pits on my 60. I run them at ~6psi while crawling and never have to fight for traction. They grip and climb all day long where I've been wheeling in the southeast.

Even with the radial, you have to break them in before they work well. I run them on my 80 and at 6psi they wrap like you wouldn't believe, but I had to drive on them for a while to get that way.

I only hae about 500 miles or so on them and they work way better than the old 37 mtr's and better than the 39.5 irok bias i had on it. Just had a hard time on the slick stuff at Robilio's off road park in Raton NM.

I wouldn't pass judgement on your new tires just yet after wheeling at robilio's place in Raton. Those greenish rocks are really slick. No rubber in our group stuck to that stuff. I have only been impressed with the way pitbull tires work, but, I can't comment on the radials.

Ive had the radials for a little over a year and cant say enough good about them. Onroad and off. There arent many people running Rockers in my area and onlookers are always impressed when they see them perform. They clean very well and bite hard. The only downside, to some, is their weight. A 42" irok only weighs 8 more pounds.

lbz34, give them a little time and i think they will work well for you. i have over 4000 miles and quite a few trail rides on mine and they've barely worn at all.

I would'nt trade my radial rockers for anything. They travel well on the highway and I have never had a problem finding traction with them. I run them about 8-10 psi and they get better with evey trip I take you just need to wear the new off them.

I have been impressed with them so far, I will run them really low and do some trails to soften them up, I really love the tires, I think I am a bit too new to know how to climb some of this stuff. Thanks for the suggestions, can't wait to hit up some more rocks with these things .

I had 37" bias on 17" wheels on my taco. Ran'em at 4psi on the trail and they were awesome. Never balanced them and they ran down the road smoothly at high speeds. Lookin at getting another set for the 40 now.

I'm 99.9% sure i will going with pits when i get new tires this fall... What does everybody think on bias versus radial for a truck that sees some daily driving? I'm not to concerned about the road manners, i have driven on bias ply swampers for years... I'm more interested in tread life on the road...

I know a few folks with pit rockers and they all love the performance on the trail, but none of them DD drive on them...

thanks
Chris

I was DD'ing the bias-ply pitbull and I found that they wear kinda funny and pretty fast. They seem to be made of a fairly soft compound.

I was DD'ing my pits from December until Sunday, but I don't have a good idea of what my mileage was. I can measure the tread if you'd like to compare to to a new tire.

if you're even the least bit concerned about treadwear, go radials. my 37" radials walk all over my buddies 39.5 bias. the only bias pitbull i would buy is the 42" rocker. i hear so much good about them.

this was a picture i had taken about 3K in.

edges were just starting to round and i was in a lot of rocks last summer. now they look about the same, rounding a little more, but biting even better offroad as well.

on road these tires have been great. noisy yes, but predictable in the rain and dont carry a lot of heat after driving for several hours.

i had the Bias Ply 37's I couldint get them to hook up unless they were at like 4-5PSI, but once they were, they worked great on rocks.. But then i Blew out Beads alot.. Went to Beadlocks, and still lost Inner Beads for some reason..

Somone Told me when i first got them to Pull the valve cores, and drive at 0 PSI around the block for a while to soften up the sidewalls..

Mine were Horible on the road, constant death wobble, mis worn, out of ballance, ect.

I have bias ply 37's, didn't like em the first 3 or 4 runs, I run em at 4 to 5 psi now, since they broke in I love em

I daily drive on my radial rockers. Track well, a bit noisy but not as bad as the bias, very smooth, and best of all I have 23k miles on them and they still have a lot of life left. I will get more than 40k from them and they will still be wheelable.
