I don't feel happy shuting down my 1HD-T under over 350 .. really happy on 300°F and in my case ( with plenty of diesel added and available ) take a few segs .. maybe 20 or more ..

To me .. and living in the middle of the town .. DD under our days and weather ..

One more thing that make my desision .. it's if I'm with the AC full .. it will take foever to go under 350°F ..

good point about the AC, I usually turn off the AC while waiting for the truck to cool down. There is plenty of cold in the system/air for me to be comfortable for 20 or 30 seconds.

Mostly- I just feel weird with the truck idling along as I leave it!
and I don't so much mind a 30 second chance to sit and relax.

Yeah mate, no harm shutting it down later rather than sooner, but you still don't want the motor to idle for long periods. It's not necessary. Thats why an EGT gauge is beneficial, because you can watch your exhaust temps drop to a safe level and then shut the motor down. After prolonged highway driving, when the turbo is pretty much always on boost, i find that 2-3 minutes is sufficiant time for the turbo to cool. Driving around town off boost does the same thing and if you have an EGT gauge you can see this. Idling for 5 minutes or more is not necessary IMHO for the majority of us 4wdrivers.

cool (pardon the pun!), thanks for teh confirmation mate, it's pretty much what i do. off the highway, i'm at a few lights before gettin home(a few moments of idling for the light to turn green and i'm easy on the pedals anyway), enough time to cool. so yep, shopin for an EGT/trannytemp/boost gauge set...

The simple TT i got off ebay does the job nicely and looks like a factory option.

Simply set it from 0-9 minutes. 1-2 mins is usually enough for me to get the post-turbo EGT's down under 150 degC.
