I can buy this for 2000 bucks but could probably talk him down to 1500. I have no place to store it to part it out and no need for anything on it. I thought if any of you wanted it I could get it for you. He is planning on taking it to a scrap yard were they have offered him "2000" but he said he would take 1500 to 2000 depending on the person.

a) is it worth that
2) should I buy it, rent a storage unit and part it out
or
d) should I get it before he scraps it and save it for one of uuz giiz.

I'm not out to make any money but will feel really badly if it gets scraped.

Its located in Asheville and is not running. The person in possesion of the truck is a mechanic. The title holders live in New Mexico and have a Mechanic Lean on the truck by the guy in possesion of it. Apparently the owners drove through Asheville 3 or 4 years ago and broke down. The mechanic did some work but never heard from the drivers again. He said he has their contact information and due to the length of time a lost title/mechaninc lean form can be filed by the mechanic befor the sale or destruction. I tried to start it and assume the battery is dead. He's not sure if it runs or not, but assumes it will not run.

I took as many pictures as would fit on the camera. The truck is about 20 minutes from the house. He works about 2 minutes from the house.

If anyone has questions or comments I'd appreciate them.

I'd offer him $500....that is what most of the 60s I have bought have sold for that either don't run or have something else wrong with them...I know a few people that have gotten 'em for just towing them away....

well, why not try a battery and see if it will go. If you can geti it running I would say $1K or so.

60's seem to bea easier to find than 62's though. You might make out a little ahead if it doesnt have any rot on the body panels parting it out.

let us know what you end up doing.

Well, the mechanic did some work on it, but isn't sure if it runs or not? Sounds flakey. Maybe stolen, I would do a VIN check. I would certainly want more evidence that the mechanic is legally able to sell the vechicle. Tell him to do this: "title/mechaninc lean form can be filed by the mechanic befor the sale or destruction", otherwise you may pay for a vehicle you will never own.

I thought I would add that I once bought a Toyota pickup from a towing yard in Boulder, CO (I live in NM). The vehicle was abandoned and the city police had an arrangement with the towing company such that they would tow seized vehicles and sell them for whatever they could. I was assured that I could get CLEAR title to the vehicle for an extra $50 fee. I bought the truck for $50 and paid the extra $50 for a clear title. The truck runs and I got the clear title.

However the title situation would have come out, the worst for me would have been having a parts truck with no title, and cost of $50.

Don't get screwed!
