Front driver side shock is leaking a good amount of fluid. Was hoping someone could recommend someone knowledgeable with the AHC system in Long Island NY.

I'm not sure if they're knowledgeable about AHC or not, but they seem to be knowledgeable about land cruisers in general. BP gas station/mechanic shop in Saint James. Hopefully others can chime in here who have dealt with your symptom and weigh in. Please post your progress so we can learn from it.

Oh man I really wish we had someone like @2001LC out on the island. Probably not enough Toyota truck enthusiasts around here to justify a whole shop but my "in another life" dream would be to open one.

The best I've found is bringing my truck to Rallye Lexus in Glen Cove for some service that I can't/won't do in my driveway. The guy who runs service is great and the advisors take care of you like you bought the truck there yesterday. It's a 20 some odd year old truck so it's not what they are used to seeing but I've sat with the manager and reviewed the FSM and tried to ensure that things get done right. At the very least they give it their best shot and will make it right if you need to come back. (labor rates ain't cheap though)

On a side note... I buy all my oem parts through their parts.lexus.com site. Consistently cheaper option when they have the 20% sale - usually beats the serra parts 25% numbers due to their static discounts. Usually close to 40% off list prices all said and done. Just make sure you elect to ship (even though I'm 10min away) shipping is free but there's a silly $15/20 surcharge if you elect to pick up at the dealership.

Hope we can find something - I haven't used the dude in St. James but from what I've read he's great but one of those "I'll get to it when I get to it type of mechanics". I think his name is Steve Bongiorno? Deduced from this recent build that sold and his build thread on this in my opinion bonkers frame off restoration.

Don't let them tell you you need new shocks. These only really leak when the pressures are incorrect. When there's too much weight on the "shocks". They're not even really shocks. They're more like hydraulic rams. They actually support the weight of the car. If you adjust the torsion bars to get the pressure within spec the leaking will stop. I also doubt very seriously there will be anyone at the lexus dealership that will know how to check the pressures or work on the system in general.

Someone on Facebook mentioned a Steve from a BP station in Smithtown. I’m assuming it’s the same one. I’ll have to look into that.

Don’t go replacing the shocks. Correct the hydraulic pressures.
The more I look into it the more I keep hearing this. It just sucks that I can’t trust a Lexus dealership to take the proper steps.

I agree. But I also wouldn’t be able to check the pressure and adjust torsion bar properly

Yes, but they may not be able to either, either out of lack of proper tools, laziness, or incompetence. Take your pick. If you have an ahc system your best bet is to get an old laptop and put a bootleg copy of techstream on it, buy the proper cable and read the abc's of ahc. You will find out all you need to know.

Totally agree. You want something done right you gotta do it yourself
