where has the highest fuel prices . I mean non rural places , countries as a general. excluding really small , isolated countries. Manly talking about 1st world here. cheers

Up 3 cents a liter tonight to 132.9. Apparently the excuse is because some places on the gulf are threatened by a cat 1 hurricane. Amazing we have to pay more before there has been any impact on supply. I guess any treason to turn the screw on the consumer is okay. <And no, that was not a typo!>

While I am certainly not defending the oil industry, approximately 1/4 of all of the oil drilling capacity in the U.S. in located along the gulf coast and even a higher percentage Of refinery capacity is located in the same region. I guess it is difficult to concentrate on your job in 80 mph winds.:D

I am in Western Canada where most of our diesel is brewed right here. What pisses me off is there is no way the supply chain here in Western Canada could have been affected so quickly to cause an increase before the storm hit.

I wonder how much the price went up in West Texas?

John,
do you REALLY expect a multi billion $$$$ a year company to care what the reason is and if it is legit? it is all money.

sadly, if we had an organization that cared about price gouging there would be a lawsuit ... the powers that be make tax from the increase so why would they shoot their golden goose in the foot?

I've posted about it before in this threat -see- but, if one is wondering why diesel in certain parts of Europe is cheaper than gas, he should look at the "roadtaxes" or as we call it in the Netherlands..."ownership taxes" as well.
Diesel over here (the Netherlands) at the moment is around 1,54 Euro (1,92USD), gas 1,87 euro (2,35 USD) per litre.
Or per gallon:
Diesel: 5,83 euro or 7,27 USD, Gas: 7,08 Euro or 8,89 USD
My "ownershiptax" is 137 euro (172 USD) a MONTH for myHZJ73 (=2064 USD a year).
for a comparable gas-rig it's around 80 euro (100 USD) a month (= 1200 USD a year).
So yes it's good diesel is cheaper than gas!!

Nah, I don't really expect it. I was just ranting. :bang: Here's some news from Bloomberg 33 minutes ago:

Hurricane Isaac Pounds Louisiana as Energy Prices Drop ...

Natural gas for September delivery fell 0.6 cents, or 0.2 percent, to $2.608 per million British thermal units at 10:53 a.m. on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Prices earlier dropped to $2.575, per million Btu, the lowest since June 22. Crude oil for October delivery declined $1.04, or 1.1 percent, to $95.29 a barrel, extending losses after stockpiles rose unexpectedly.

Not sure what the guys at Bloomberg are smoking but a large number of gulf coast refineries are " off line " and are not expected to be up and running for at least a week. Local petrol and diesel prices are rising on a daily basis.

The key phrase being "after stockpiles rose unexpectedly". They got too much stock. That usually means prices go down for the consumer so they can clear out the overstock. Now they can clear it out at inflated prices.

It still doesn't come close to answering my question why did the prices go up here in Western Canada before the storm even was close to making land fall and when we don't use a drop of crude or refined oil from the Gulf. Almost 100% of our diesel is refined here in Western Canada with a very small amount coming in from a couple refinereies in the US Pacific North West (mainly Flying J and Jet Fuel).

You are thinking as an individual (consumer) and not as a profit generating corporation. :)

Oil Corporations are People Too!

I am shocked, shocked I say, that anyone would have something negative to say about oil and gas corporations!

They are most benevolent, caretakers of our planet—only looking out for the best interests of the general public at heart. Can WE—I mean—THEY help it if the rest of the world has an addiction to fuel. They are simply the suppliers and distributors.

In Kerrville, Valero is selling petrol for $3.59 per gallon today, and it's only $3.69 for diesel. Diesel costs more per gallon than petrol—even if it is just much cheaper to refine. That’s only because those generous refineries are exporting more abroad. Helping other foreign countries with their addiction, and bringing supply where it costs so much more.

That’s also why our government gives free land and resources, as well as huge tax breaks to oil companies. To make up the difference for the profits that could have been made abroad as compared to the United States. Their actually losing money, and that’s why us taxpayers need to help them.

Why here in TEXAS—where an uneducated 17-year old kid with only a few DWIs can roughneck driving a broken-down semi through the narrow streets of underdeveloped barrios for about $80,000 a year, and the gentlemen ranchers can kick off their tenants and get up to $2 million on top of their AG exemptions for drilling and/or fracking rights—those corporate oilmen are generous to a fault.

Why I bet they barely keep anything for themselves. There is so much philanthropy among these billionaires; I hear they send quite a bit of money abroad to help out the Swiss economy, as well as islands in the Caribbean.

Never mind a few little earthquakes and smelly fire water. It’s all trickling down onto the taxpayers. If we can keep those crazy liberal regulators at bay things will be better off.

I only wish I could be a part of it all, but unfortunately I can’t. I have to get my fuel from used cooking oil. It doesn’t smell as bad, but it must not be as good either, because it costs only about $1.97 to manufacture.

Just ask Rush! He’ll tell it like it is!

As of this morning (9/3) .... 156.9 per liter in Frankfurt, Germany ... So I guess it could be worse.

An overview of the fuelprices PER LITER here in Europe. :D
As you can see the Netherlands are in 17th position.
Norway and the UK being the most expensive.
Prices are in Euro. To find in USD multiply by 1,26
To find in USD per Gallon, multiply by 4,76

Hurray Norway taking gold medal again.
It has it downsides living in Norway, especially since I drive my HJ60 600km (373miles) a week, I definitely notices it on my monthly budget, but I earn about 65USD an hour working on Saturdays delivering post/letters so it definitely haves it ups as well :)

Around 70-80% of our fuel prices are taxes ....
