Hey all LX470 owners interested in a unit that works with our vehicles...I have a question.

Does anyone know the differences in the multimedia stacks by model year?

For instance, I'm pretty sure that my '02 audio/nav unit behind the front face is pretty much the same as the ML/Nav unit for the 2003. But I think it differs from there forward.

I need correction to my thoughts as well as any knowledge you want to share on how your unit is different than 200x or 200y.

Share the knowledge and let's get Canavie working on units for our vehicles! They sound like they're willing.

Here's a list of "Possibly/Definately Interested" LX owners for this so far:
frogers935 '06 LX470
Higgin '06 LX470
3D FJ '03 LX470
mogili222 '03 LX470
JETIX2 '04 LX470
seanz0rz '05 LX470
jLB '03 LX470
Ramathorn15 '06 LX470
deanfun '07 LX470
cwiniger '04 LX470
CHFord '02 LX470

Anyone else want to be added? Anyone need their name/year corrected?

I'm really another one of those '06 LX types... (I do not currently own an 03 LX, but if one followed me home, I'd probably keep it)
I'm also about knee deep in evaluating and reporting bugs on the Grom Vline product right now. I'm still interested in the 10" replacement unit, but I would not be an immediate purchaser at this time.

Understood. I'll update and note your status.

Heard back from Andy.

He's asking if he could get pictures of all LX470 owner's consoles for those interested in a Canavie unit. He wants to get some idea of what year/units are the same.

Question in general...should I split this off into a new thread?

I'd start a new thread for the dev of the LX units, since they seem to be different.

Ive been working too much to really follow this thread closely, but I am at the point I need something that is plug n play. Just not enough hours in the day to play with critical vehicle systems (HVAC)

ok thx! I'll check into it

Here is what they said regarding Apple CarPlay:

Dear Dan:

Thanks for your email.

Sorry Apply CarPlay is a kind of Mirrorlink or something like that?
This multimedia supports mirrorlink. The attached photos maybe helpful.

If anything we can do, just feel free to contact us. We are ready here.

Best Regards
Andy

I can't attach the .zip file they sent...and I'm on a mobile device for the weekend :(

it seems that Andoid OS cannot run CarPlay

That shouldn't be entirely correct, (The line is android based and unofficially has CarPlay) but it is not something you going to find on "google play". If I understand correctly Apple wants to license/approve CarPlay on each auto manufacturers or stereo manufacturers implementation on their equipment. I doubt any of the "Pure Android" device manufactures would want the pain/hassle to implement CarPlay in their generic stereo units. They're probably going to direct you to more generic "screen mirroring".

isn't the Android "Auto" GUI the counterpart to CarPlay?

It is my understanding that Android auto is the Android phone equivalent to the iPhone CarPlay.

CarPlay is for a iPhone client/interface/API.

Android Auto is for Android phone client/interface/API.

An Android head unit can act as the "server" (my term not theirs) for either (w/ the appropriate software). On the Apple CarPlay, it seems Apple wants to license/approve any "CarPlay" software implementation. Android auto may or may not have similar licensing approval.

Alternatives are a more generic screen mirroring, which may display the phone screen on the stereo screen, w/ or w/o touchscreen control on the stereo passing back to the phone.

From my fiddling with CarPlay on the GROM Vline, while you can control music on the phone, the bigger intent is to integrate phone functions (iMessage/Mail/Phone/Maps/etc) into the stereo display through a simplified interface. For example: Text messages are read to you, and you are prompted to respond using your voice. One advantage is that it removes much of the need for the head unit to tether to your phone for Internet access, as the phone is actually running the applications, the head unit just becomes the user interface to the phone. While I find CarPlay interesting, at the moment, I don't find it so compelling that I would rule out the Canavie if it were not available.

If Canavie doesn't know what CarPlay is... they certainly aren't pursuing certification with Apple to have it on their system. I wouldn't hold your breath.

ok - thanks for clearing that up

incidentally, I'm able to mirror my I-Phone 6 to the Canavie. Also can send/rcv calls hands-free (although this doesn't require mirror mode to be active). oh I figured out why my OBDII dongle was't reliably interfacing with the app: I baught the *wrong* dongle :bang: i just got & installed the bluetooth version (it's like $6) and it connected easily & now reports all the parameters

I sent a picture of my console to Andy - after he had already said I'd be one of the recipients of the LX model - and, as I suspected...my console isn't compatible.

I have a 2002 and my console looks like this

So...Andy restated that if he receives pictures of your consoles he'll make a determination of who would be the candidates/guinea pigs for the new LX model once it's released.

He's looking to have one member in the 2003-05 range and one in the '05-07 range.

So, if you want to be the lucky recipient...post a pic of your console and I'll forward them to Andy.

For the 06 LXs in the group, an 06 LX looks like this:

Is there another thread on this? If so, please point me in the direction. If not, then I'm interested and please put me on that list. Mine's an '05 LX470.

My 04 is the exact same as the 05/06 shown above.

My 2002 LX470,
I too am interested.
Add me to the list.
