Feels like a clunk to me. I will try the above, thanks!

If you have a spring loaded center punch, use that to break up the drill bit. Hopefully the bit is bigger than the center punch.

I just replaced my rack and it still shifts a tiny bit when I steer. All my control arms, tie rods, and ball joints are new, and whenever I'm going in reverse over an uneven surface with my wheels turned I can feel what I'm sure is the rack moving under the load. Have that experience? The steering shaft is solid metal from what I remember and the only thing that could have play is the U joint?

I would check rear suspension linkage at that point. Worn rear links have been known to create issues that can seem like the front end. Check upper and lower links and panhard bar. Also have you changed all sway bar hardware?

What is the panhard bar? I know the rack is moving because when I look at it and have someone move the wheel I can see it shifting. My sway bar links are cracking and I've never changed the bushings before

The panhard bar is the lateral bar on the rear axle that keeps it from moving left/right. The stock bushings on the rack allow for a little movement when you turn the wheel, but anything over 1/4" I would replace the rack bushings.

Sounds like you just need a suspension refresh in general. I would check everything I mentioned, but at the least replace all sway bar bushings and links and steering rack bushings if worn.

Edit: just saw you recently got a new rack. My new rack shifts slightly on the factory bushings, but I prefer this, as it act as a sort of dampener to steering forces. I ran poly bushings on my old rack and did not like the feedback I recieved from them in the steering wheel.

So like I said I did front upper and lower control arms and TREs. Rack is brand new. So everything up front is new as it can get. When I go over bumps it still feels like there is give somewhere and I feel it in the wheel. Is that just how it's supposed to be or is there something I'm missing?

So like I said... Panhard bar, all the upper and lower links in the REAR suspension. A loose rear end can emulate looseness in the whole vehicle. Also all sway bar hardware.

Damn that's crazy that the booty makes a difference up front. Alrighty I'll take a look at er today. To take out the rear control arms do I have to worry about the springs at all or do they stay put?

They should stay in place if removing one link and replacing at a time. Though you should probably be able to tell if the bushings are detrimental without removing the links from the vehicle. The upper links are usually the ones to go first. To fully diagnose your issues you may want to start a thread on it.

Alright I looked in the engine bay today and I am certain it is nothing suspension related that is giving me s***ty wheel feedback. When I took my truck in for an alignment after replaced the rack I told them I need the rack centered (it was one or two splines off). My steering wheel still isn't straight and when I got it back I believe there is a rubber grommet missing now circle. I can shake my steering shaft back and forth and when I go over weird bumps I guarantee this is what's not being dampened. Do you have something here?

Mine looks exactly like yours.

Did you get the broken bit out?

DD mentioned it earlier in this thread.

Did you get the broken bit out?
Not yet, I'm determined to get it out myself. Getting some real nice bits to try this weekend and if that doesn't work, the torch is coming out.

@Rolocado can you either PM me or start your own thread so my build thread does not get too cluttered?

Don't give up on that bolt! I've been there a bunch of times, it'll always come out one way or another. Can you tack a bar to it? I've crushed bits inside bolts before, it sucks! Persistence and heat are key (and lots of trashed bits).

Bolts broken off too deep inside the hole... gonna hit it with some carbide bits this weekend and heat. I've extracted almost every kind of bolt and it's funny cause you would think this would be one of the easier ones lol. I'll report up on extraction this weekend. And I'll post a pic of the bolt as it is.
