TJ Jostes Forest Axe. More of a limbing/bush axe, but I suspect will be handy to have around camp.

Brand new, haven’t used it yet other than to limb the Christmas tree...

Am I seeing thing or do the grains look horizontal on the end of the handle? That would not be good.
The grain is running the same direction from top to bottom of the handle. Horizontal would be perpindincular to the grain of the rest of the handle. I think it’s ok, but I’m going to check as soon as I get home!

It doesn't really matter Dragos80,because it if far to stunningly beautiful (both Metal and Wood) to use!
It would look better hanging on the wall, in my Man Cave being admired.

D'oh!
Homer

It’s gorgeous-the picture doesn’t do it justice! But I use my things. I like the way a used item develops a patina. I’ll take goodcate of it!

If you look at it length-wise with the cutting edge pointing to the ground, the stripes within the handle should be as close as possible to a vertical line pointing to the ground.

If they run close to a vertical orientation, then upon using the axe you run a high risk of splitting the handle.

What do you guys thing about these two axes? They are custom made by a one-man shop.

I only have partial details on one of them, the Hunting axe.
1.1 lb head weight and 3.54" cutting edge length.
Don't know the prices yet, nor do I have the info on what type of steel he uses. He said the steel comes from the leaf springs of some trucks.

This is what he calls the Hunting Axe:

Dragos80 - Those are really nice works of art. Hand made? Well done.

Let me ask the purpose of the axe head being off center like that? Seems it would be a learning curve to chop wood. Looks cool.

thanks dragos80....another ax i've got to add to my arsenal! who is the craftsman that created those?
@scrapdaddy , no real curve at all. and what drago said. amazing control

Found someone on Facebook who makes them. He does not advertise any prices though. You have to send him a private message, which I did.
I asked about customizing the axe a little (longer handle for ex). I have not heard anything back yet.

Finally got an answer from the guy. Around $65 and roughly 3 months to complete the order, plus shipping time.

Found a head geometry picture, which I would assume would be the same for all of them. Not a splitter for sure, maybe for small diameter wood.

not that he should be poundin' on the ax with a metal headed tool but that's pretty bad @$$. definitely got some integrity in his forging of the edge. @Dragos80, have you got a link? thanks man
