Ok you guys, I bought the ftm-100dr and am getting it installed this weekend. I’m going to mount the head unit on a ram mount next to the shifters. The remote head unit has a threaded mount on it and if I can just find a 1” ball with the right size stud...I’m in business. Anyone know the right size stud for the head unit?
I know this is about a decade late, as you already figured out a way to mount yours, but for anyone else who is really lazy - I found a 1" ball with the correct stud from HuddExpo. Stupid expensive at $20, but plug and play.

Mounted my FTM-400XDR head with a RAM suction mount, and the 1" ball adapter for Yaesu radios mentioned above. I had wanted to put the suction mount to the left of the transfer case shifter, but couldn't make it stick - the suction cup was just a bit too large. I plan to mount the mic with rare earth magnets, like nacman did (great, clean idea!). I've got a mic extension cable coming to extend the reach a bit. Just need to tidy up the remote head cable around the console and behind the dash and it'll be good to go. I like the idea of being able to remove the head and stash it when needed if leaving the car somewhere for awhile, like at the airport.

Wired directly to the battery through the firewall, and the main unit is under the front passenger seat for now. I was worried about inadequate heat dissipation in the glove compartment, but may move it in the future. Anyone seeing any overheating issues after TXing for extended periods? No remote speaker and it is plenty loud to hear radio traffic just fine.

APRS on this radio awesome, BTW. The qwerty keyboard makes it super easy to bang out messages.

Just running a Diamond dual-bander mag mount on the roof for now, but will probably put an nmo mount in the center of the roof, and likely another mount on the fender up front for bushwacking, and when the roof rack is full.

@fourleggedfish No issues with heat using the CD changer area. In fact, removing that CD changer has created a new air channel for freezing cold air to blow through in the winter... it's like I've got a cool box. I have an extra hat and some gloves shoved into that space just to add a little insulation, as if it's really cold out everyone who sits there gets cold knees... I have a feeling some of this may be exacberbated by my Dissent bumper, and that is letting a lot more cold air into the firewall area than the stock plastic did.

Glad to see more people doing the magnets! I did this on my 200 also. nakman style ham radio install. Yaesu FTM-400 in a 2018 - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/nakman-style-ham-radio-install-yaesu-ftm-400-in-a-2018.1271219/
