A drive through Wind Cave National Park is very cool to see all the bison roaming freely. There is a scenic loop called Highland Ridge Rd/NPS 5 that is a nice relaxing loop with great wildlife viewing. If you can somehow swing it between Badlands/WY I'd recommend it. If you have a day to burn you can try to book one of the campsites and do the actual cave tour too.
We are going right through this area in a couple days and could spare a day if it’s as cool as you make it sound. We will arrive at Badllands boondocking camp tomorrow and had thought about spending 2 nights there to get a reprieve from 2 massive days on the road but idk if badlands is worth that based on what we’ve read.

I wonder id they do the cave tours on Sunday.

Not trying to brag or anything but we snagged a sweet spot at a Loves tonight.

All jokes aside, it’s actually not too bad to have a spot with hookups waiting for you after a 700 mile day. We’re jetting first thing in the morning so having the highway right here is convenient.

Joshua Tree NP, at Indian Cove. It was hot. The Dometic CFX 35 with the Goal Zero 1000x and a 100 watt solar panel worked great at keeping the food and drinks at a nice 35 degrees with the temperature in the mid-90s outside. The rock formations are spectacular. I have never been at this campground before. Really nice.

Every once in a while it's nice and convenient to get a more urban and modernized spot to camp. No need to be embarrassed, we all do it from time to time.

I've been through the area twice and neither time disappointed, but the bison were definitely more active in warmer weather. That said it was late May last time and I'm not sure what it would be like in summer. The first time we were there we probably saw 200-300 bison and some were within 10 feet of the road. There are a couple beautiful hikes too in the park. I didn't get to do cave tour because timing didn't work, but I still want to go back for it.

The other thing that is a given is that Mt. Rushmore is a short drive away and Custer is a pretty neat town too. There's a brewery that is called Mt. Rushmore Brewing Company that has surprisingly good food for such a small town.

Kids camp with our friends Westy & our ADGU sleeper system in our 200. Rained this night and it was so nice to be warm & dry in the Cruiser and not a tent.
