Hey all,

I recently parked my first 100 series last week (07’). I hs 178k on the clock and is in great condition. Minimal surface rust. Lived in Utah and Texas it’s whole life. I drove 1800 miles back to CT from TX without a hitch . I had the seller replaced all 4 AHC clothes, replace AHC fluid, replace rack and pinion, new outer tire rods and the intermediate driveshaft, before I closed on it.

As with all used TLC’s they need some love & care. But I don’t mind wrenching myself and look forward to getting my hands dirty.

With that said, I noticed a few wet spot underneath where I parked the truck. My first reaction was oh s*** here we go. I have an oil leak…. After removing the skid plate and inspecting everything, I can see that the fluid was only on the left side (passenger) of the engine bay, and was definitely coming from top down. I checked the hi/low pressure hoses and didn’t see anything. Coming from the pump. What I found was what looks like a bent mounting bolt for the power steering pump…. (See photo attached) it looks like the lower bolt is bent. And the head of the bolt is so close to hitting the pulley.

I was going to do a power steering flush last night, but decided against it until I get the bolt replaced. Does anyone know the part number off hand. I had a hard time finding it on partsouq. Also I’m a little new to using the FSM. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

First remove the bolt make sure, it is bent. Torque is 13ft-lbf on all 3 of these vane pump bolts.
Make sure to use your VIN# when in PQ. This bolts isn't at all hard to find. Leaning to navigate PQ, is going to help you immensely.
Note: Watch out for P/N you see in mud. All 100 series aren't the same.

There are number of places power steering fluid (PS ATF) could be leaking form, coating vane pump (PS pump):

When Vane pump has PS ATF, coming from the shaft. Time to replace vane pump.

Most are leaking from old suction hose, which attaches to PS reservoir. This leaks, result in hose and bottom of vane rather than top of vane getting wet with PS ATF. But it can soak entire vane pump.

Your leak could be from union HP union bolt, which may be loose. Could be issue with bolt union gaskets.

Could be the union bolts capture nut, underneath the HP union/bolt. Which is thread on vane, is loose. Sometimes when union bolt removed from Vane pump. The bolt is stuck on female capture nut. Then capture nut spins loose, when union bolt stuck on. Tech keeps turning union bolt forcibly. Not realizing he needed to hold capture nut.

If HP line replaced with aftermarket, rather than OEM. The idle up control needs to be swap over. Often they leak when swapped over or replace. I use a little thread sealer (Toyota FIPG 103 oil), then sung until leak stops leaking. I've not found a torque spec on idle up control.

Thanks for getting back at the thread so fast!!

I’m going to pull the air box this weekend to get look at the bolt further. But I can certainly tell you that the bolt I’m referring to is bent. It doesn’t seem like the vein bolt you are describing but I may be confused also….

The bolt I’m referring to looks like 2 others that hold the pump to motor… the picture shows the bottom of the 3 total bolts holding pump in place…

You can see the bolt head just misses the pulley wheel…

So you think I need a new pump? Or just a bolt?

Do those 3 mounting bolts hold the P/S pump tight up anganst something? Bc I thought the p/s fluid goes through the vein bolt (banjo) out to tubes, etc…
 
I gave you link, to page with the bent bolt. Which is one of 3 bolts securing vane pump to engine.

I also gave you suggests of where leak may be from. One being at banjo bolt, that holds HP line to vane pump.
