@TheGrrrrr you’re correct, I have the medium Tough Dog TourFlex springs. Thank you for the kind words!Shock was pulled and the remaining rear shock was set to the stiffest setting. The 2nd half of the trail, @laserturbo91 ran with only one shock with no issues. I think he has tough dog springs and you never would have known the shock was missing. I was tail gunning and he was in front of me. I kept an eye on it all the way out and you can see in the 2nd half of my video that the truck didn't miss a beat.
Jeff (@laserturbo91 ) deserves a lot of credit for keeping his composure, focusing on limiting damage and then driving that thing out of there. A lot folks wouldn't have been able/willing to do that, and I don't think our run was negatively impacted by the issue at all.
I would have thought the other shock that hasn’t been back to Icon would have failed but oh well. I just got in touch with Icon today so we will see where it goes from here.Nah, lots of people run the Icons without issue. There have been a few reports (both of his are the only ones I have witnessed) of the upper bolt shearing off, but this is first time I've heard of anyone breaking the same shock twice.

Interesting. I would have been pretty nervous about over articulating and dropping the spring out, especially with my 30mm spacers. It’s good to know this is possible.
What would this scenario look like on the front? I don’t think you could get the shock out of the strut assembly w/o a spring compressor.
Sorry for the tech hijack of the LCDC thread. I’m just a little obsessed with what can break on a trail and how I might deal with it.
I guess my trip back to Maryland last year taking the long way helped build confidence in rolling with one rear shock. I’m with Matt that a failure of a front shouldn’t happen in the same way. You have multiple studs holding it in the strut tower.I'm no expert on this stuff, but I think front would be a very different (worse) situation. I suspect you would be more likely to break a CV than a coil-over up front and there are a few folks who have solved for that on the trail in different ways. Haven't heard of anyone breaking a coil-over on a 200 and its not something I have thought much about.
Thank you!No doubt. I wouldn’t have been nearly as calm and business-like. The whole thing was handled well. The communication on the trail, the repair, and the lack of “urgency” on everybody’s part. It was a good learning experience.
Hmm, I still have my OEM shocks and springs. I suppose I could carry one rear shock as a spare but if this is really only something that happens to your truck, then its not necessary for me...While passing a Toyota dealership in Tucson yesterday, I checked and they had a rear shock in stock. For a whopping $65 out the door and a little time this morning, I’m back to two rear shocks for the remainder of my trip back east. Riding with only one back there was fine most of the time but bumps on the highways would get a little squirrelly.

Heh not just early… pretty sure I was the first production one for the 200@linuxgod all good Geoff, and as an early adopter you received an older version of that part, have had a handful break there over the years. All backed by lifetime warranty, we'll get you fixed up tonight, and the new ones are much stronger now.![]()
I blame that museum for causing a subliminal 2021 HE purchaseI’m still on my way back home (east). 1500 miles to go. LCDC 2021 has been a blast for me. I spend a few days in Moab after LCDC running trails. Now, taking a detour eastbound. Will share More pics and video after getting home.
I also got to visit the Land Cruiser Heritage Museum in Salt Lake City. Highly recommended for all cruiser head.
