Keep them coming! I hope someone pulls some interior dimensions. I really want to see how it stacks up to my 200

New GX 550 is pretty sweet! Hood looks, sight lines from the drive position in good, well laid out interior. I have a bunch of photos that I don’t have time to post and add captions to, but here are a few.

Thanks for the pics. Based on your experience, how did the second row space feel? Any chance you could compare it against the LX? My theory is that as the GX has grown in size, the interior should feel the same as the LX.

Kurt and Mark deep in speculative future product development….

Stand by! I have this exactly!!

Remember this is a preproduction vehicle, things will change.

Just got home from Expo PNW.
First thing I did Thursday during set up was to get these photos.
And here we go!

It appears to be true dual exhaust.
Skid plates are lacking.
Frame is much more robust.

Plenty of gap at the forward wheel well, my guess is 2” lift and 35” should fit. The forward body mount just aft of the forward wheels is super beefy!

3” wider in the rear storage area. If someone could measure the bottom of the second row to the rear door threshold that would great! That is the second image here.

Current model GX 4x4 systems controls are all over the place, I absolutely love that they put the diff locks and low range controls aft of the shifter, the crawl control switches just forward of the shifter.

The transmission tunnel and center counsel are a bit wider and lends it self a better position to allow two foot driving left foot braking.

Thanks for the photos @Washingtontaco
some comparisons vs LC 300

LC300 seems like it has beefier control arms
More armouring and better ground clearance.

Frame looks pretty much almost identical but LC300 just seems to be done abit nicer out the box.
The new GX is a huge improvement over the old one though.

(Ignore any surface rust that 300 is not brand new and has almost 30k kms of offroad/beach driving)

The great news is by the time the first owners actually get the GX550, the platform its based on would have been in production for almost 3 years already ( in the LC300) so hopefully that means way less first year issues (hopefully).

From my understanding many of the 300 parts are the same on the 250.

Oh wow...there are so many similarities that justifying the 300 gets harder and harder.

The 550 looks very much refined and agile.
I think it depends where you live and what your market has to offer.

The reality is in the US the GX will obviously be a much better seller than the expensive LX, it was before and now that it became better than ever it will continue that trend without a doubt.

However, in other markets where the pricing will overlap, it will be difficult to convince people to choose a GX 550 over the LC 300 & and this is why so far it seems like they won't be offered in any markets where they do have the threat of overlapping with each other.

The reason we aren't getting the GX 550 in the Middle East is because the dealers are worried since it will be priced more expensive than many LC300 models, people will not justify leaving the LC300 for the GX 550 that has an inferior engine.
You can get a twin turbo LC300 with a better engine / 409hp vs 349hp on the GX - for a lower price than what they will likely price the GX 550 had it been offered in the same market.

They sold the current GX 460 in the Middle East and it was more expensive than some 200 series trims and as a result of that ( and it being a Prado Lexus - Prado is viewed as an inferior vehicle here - lower status - etc) it didn't sell well, even though the Prado itself does fairly well, and that is because no one wants to spend a lot of money on a vehicle that is viewed as less than compared to a cheaper LC200/LC300.

They are afraid the same would happen again, the GX 550 was actually positively received in the Middle East, but once some people find out its still the Prado Lexus ( once they see the new LC Prado ) the same issue will likely happen, where no one will want to pay a lot of money to be driving a fancy Prado that has lower status than a Toyota LC300, it might sound silly to you but its the reality in our local market.

We will be getting the Prado 250, but only with 4 cylinder engines as not to overlap with the LC300, and even then, I assume high spec versions of the Prado will be creeping up into LC300 territory.

You guys in the US don't seem to have this issue, so without a doubt the GX will sell very well.

The only country I know of so far that will offer the GX 550 side by side with the Toyota LC300 is Australia, but they only get twin turbo diesel LC300s, the petrol twin 6 is only available on the LX in Australia, so I can see how they could market it that without clashing with the LC300.
