great job

Hey '60 looks good so far.You will not regret it.What else can you buy like a 60.....nothing.Will be looking into my frame in the near future and a full off resto is in it's future.Like everybody says, Toyota has nothing to offer in their current line up,shame they really had it right for a few years.Keep it rolling!

Yes that air compressor seems like it would do th trick, especially fpor sand blasting. As far as welders. The lincoln is a good unit. Unfortunately I have not heard good things about the home depot version, something like cheaper parts etc especially produced for home depot?? I would take a hobart over the lincoln. Miller produces the Hobart, the main difference being that it built witrh some cheaper rollers etc. However from talking with numerous welding shops when I was doing my search The Hobart seems like a good choice. I finally settled on a Miller. I have found that Miller has parts that are readily available and that you can easily get parts for older machines. So far I own three millers, 2 of which are Migs and one tig. As far as the gas being ok in 100 degrees. I grew up in the desert and it was always over 100 degrees. For years I used flux cored wire in the basic home depot lincoln welder and it did a decent job. When I swotched to gas shielding I felt it made the overall job quite a bit easier. The extra time that you spend cleaning up the splater and cleaning the weld slag is not worth the cost of the gas. They simply make to much of a mess.

I was going to buy the compressor from TS but they are out. They said they should get some Friday, so I will be lucky to get one in a month. Once we get it the progress should speed up a lot.

Put some time in today. Got it all degreased and ready for the POR. I also bought metal so I can make my bumper. I am borrowing a welder this weekend so I want to get a lot of work done.

Over the past week I have run 220v to my garage, did almost all the por15ing, started work on a front bumper and did a lot of body work. Right now I have a lot of the rust sandblasted and cleaned ready to have new matal welded in. I have to buy a welder because I have a lot of stuff to weld and I want to do everything the right way and not the easy way. I am looking to get a cheap new or used 220v mig. I will try and post some pictures. I really need to buy a silver star so I can have bigger pictures.

do you think it would be worth while to reweld all of the welds. Multi pass them, I would think it could do no hurt? I ran a 220v line to my barn 2 summers ago, it was a huge project. But any real air compressor or welder will require it, just cant get anything done on 110v.

keep up the good work and keep the pictures coming.

I finally got the frame PORed. I have finals next week and then we will get some real work done on this.

Well its been slow. I finally got the front end torn apart, I have the driveshafts out and everything almost ready to take the body off. I think all that is left is to disconnect the brakes and cut the body mount bolts. My plan is to torch off the nuts of the bolts and replace all of that stuff when I put the body back on. IH8RUST

looks like somebody forgot to put the cover over the carb again. it could rain tonight. don't worry, its back on now.

Haha thanks, i saw that but i was too lazy to walk out there.

We got some done on it today. Got the gas tank out, clutch out, brakes out and I hope everything removed so that tomorrow we can take the body off the frame. We will see how that goes.

I realize that it is too late now for you, however EVERYONE I spoke to about the frame swap on my 60 ( I am still debating what to do) told me to simply get the replacement frame galvinized. I checked with a few places and they were all around $500.00 for the process. They all also claimed that it would not rust for at least 100 years! ANd you didn't have to do any prep work on the frame, they did it all.

Yeah thats great, if you have money but not time. I have time, not money. I was perfectly happy spending a little under $150 for all the POR and prep stuff and doing it myself. I dont see any reason why I would spend that much money to coat a frame to put under a cruiser that has some rust on the body. Maybe if the body were rust free yet somehow the frame was bad, then that would make sense but it wouldnt for what I have to work with.

Brownbear I would agree with you,

THere is no replacement for this truck. There is NOTHING like it except possibly the new Chrysler Jeep but even then it has a small interior and is allot more complex to maintain. If it breaks down in the field you are SOL. At least with the 3b it’s easy to fix if something does go. I often tell my wife if the world were to end in the future I would only want my bj60 and nothing else;)

Zack1978,

The day I got my cruiser met another one in Vancouver. He had is replacment frame galvanized and it looked great. I would highly recomend it if nothing else.

Zach,

Did you get a line on a place to get galvanizing done in our neck of the woods? Just curious for future reference.

I'm in NEPA. I have a "pretty good" 60 frame here I'd like to move out, also. "Pretty good" means pretty good for a NE truck!

I would still have to paint my frame if I got it galvanized. I'm one for a black frame, no reason to have it stick out. thats what the blue paint is for :D

There were two places in Newark, NJ. I forget the actual names, but I can find it.

And I was just attempting to help with the suggestion, never did I mean to upset anyone, "time/money money/time".

FINALLY!!!

Today was the day, we got the body off the frame. It took us 2 attempts. The first one wasnt sturdy enough. I can not stress enough to anyone that will be doing this, once you think it is sturdy do EVERYTHING you can to make it even more sturdy. We have 2 4x6s across the body held in by some other pieces that are I think 12x12s all nailed together. Like I said make sure you way over do everything.

A couple things to double check before raising the body, ask me how I know . Clutch lines, just remove the slave cylinder, its easier, once again  The E-brake is not easy to remover either, dont forget the ground from the motormount to the fender, ground from the body to the tranny I am sure I will think of more stuff and when I do I will post up.

The neighbors will be thrilled when they get back from there vacation tomorrow

Sorry about the pictures, we just got done at 9:30, I will get better pictures tomorrow. Where did that blue cruiser come from?
