This was my first sewing project with my 1951 Worm Drive Singer if got for $5 back in the mid 80's. Road in the tool box under the seat in Elsie for about 25 years. Then moved to the F150 for about 20 years. Is going back in Elsie this spring.

Believe your dates are off. This from a 63.

This one is from a 10/69 70 model.

Got them from the same person. He owned the 63 and traded it in for the 70. Purchased the 70 from him in 2011. Tool roll was under the driver's seat in the tool box. Hammer handle is dried out more from being stored inside vehicle that was parked under a carport in a dry climate all those years. Have paper from the original sale. Address was the same in 2011.

Edit: replaced the one of the 70 tool roll. One I posted was obviously not mine. Was pictured in the back of a different vehicle. This is both the 63 and 70 tool rolls in the back of the 100 series I owned.
Downed loaded picture I posted off the mud not mine.

The dates are consistent with research described below. Posting updated to clarify calendar dates rather than model-year references.

1963. Land Cruiser (FJ40, FJ43, FJ45) lug nuts changed from 23mm to 21mm in August 1963. The tool kit was updated as part of that change. The 2-piece, 23mm lug wrench was replaced with a 1-piece, 21mm lug wrench. So for the later months of 1963, Land Cruiser tool kits included the 1-piece, 21mm lug wrench. A correct tool kit for a later 1963 (Aug-Dec) production Land Cruiser with 21mm lug nuts would include a 1-piece, 21mm lug wrench.

Before August 1963, tool kits included the 2-piece, 23mm lug wrench. The lug wrench was fairly short, the ends of the wrench align with the upper/lower #3 loops on the tool roll canvas. With its longer length, the 2-piece wrench in your 63 tool kit looks to be a later 21mm version.

1970. The parts catalog shows the Spanner Set changing to a new part in 8/1969 as well as introduction of the 19x21mm wrench also in 8/1969. The 19x21mm wrench was part of the 5-wrench wrench set for the medium tool roll and was not included in the earlier set. This suggests the changeover to the medium tool roll was scheduled during 8/1969.

Not surprising that a large tool roll kit was included in a 10/69 production though. Like with other parts, Toyota used up their old stock before starting with the new.

My 1970 Owner's Manual describes the medium tool roll. The kit does not include either the hammer or engine adjust kit from the large tool roll. Interestingly, the list of spanners was not updated to reflect the newer set. The same image and information also appears in 1971 Owner's Manual.

Contrast this with the 1969 Owner's Manual that included the large tool kit with hammer and engine adjust kit.

Going to have to disagree on the date in 1969. My early 70 is a very original. Bought from the original owner. Current address was the same as the warranty book. He was either 86 or 87 when I bought it. He told me his original F had an issue with burning an exhaust value and in 1975 he purchased a 2F form someone who pulled it right after purchase for a V8 conversion. Last time I checked the serial number with the third lowest in the 2F thread. Had a couple of threaded about this 70. One for it's value. Second was trying to help him sell it. 2011 economy was still recovering. Couldn't find a buyer so ended up just buying myself even thought I didn't need it. I had previously bought the tool roll from his 63. He and his father had bought purchased 63s. I also got the two rear steps that were removed when new along with beige bumperettes. When I purchased the 70 I got the rear step and bumperettes that were removed when new. 70 has first gen Husky lock out hubs. He never purchased new hub cap with the cut out but would remove the hub caps to lock and unlock the hubs. The 63 and 70 were the only two Land Cruisers he owned and was not a parts collector. I did get some other items from the mid sixties when his brother had a small Toyota dealer in a small town. Dealers from the big three threatened to small getting auto loans from the only bank in town if they continue to finance Toyotas. I have a bunch of cool old literature from that dealership. Price sheets and technical bulletins. Those show the changes by frame number as well. Difference is these are old original material, some around sixty years old. For the record my 63 tool roll was missing the 23MM lug wrench and the one in there is 21MM from a early FJ62. The wrench included six wrenches on the 63 tool roll and only five on the 70 tool roll. As I remember the small one missing is the same size as the ignition pouch.

Think it's funny in 2011 I couldn't find a buyer willing to pay $10,000 for this FJ40. Rare to find one this old with original paint in this condition.
