I replied earlier in this thread, unfortunately there is no known Land Cruiser mechanic on the island of Oahu, at least none that advertises or known by any of my friends and family…especially for 40s, 60s, 70s and 80 series. But I bet a competent Toyota mechanic could work on 100s and 200s. You kinda have to do your own work on them out here.
Bummer to hear but name of the game I suppose. There is one specialized RHD shop I found but their hourly labor is double the average. Was hoping to find a different place with a trustworthy diesel mechanic but still looking so far. Appreciate the help anyways 🤙🏽

Whats double the labor rate? That would be 300-440.00 in California (150-220 most shops)..

So you have a diesel 60 series? There is a diesel section here at MUD that could be of assistance.
I don't see what is so special about a RHD vehicle that warrants doubling the shop labor rate. :(

It hasn’t been bad for our 6 LCs over the last 11 years. Mostly it’s forced us to do all our own work, and now we would never bring any of our LCs to a shop, as no one at an hourly shop would do a more thorough job than we would do. We can do everything in our garage now after acquiring most the tools and hoists/lifts…from metal work, paint and bodywork, engine rebuilds, most other mechanical work and interior restoration stuff. It’s really been a blessing that there has been no shops, as we’ve been able to learn almost everything from the FSM, this forum and YouTube. You really just need some space, the right tools and a little patience to do most everything on these cruisers.

There isn’t anything special at all about RHD, but the importers here in Hawaii that sell RHD LCs here charge insane money for them $30-50k?!?!?, so people just assume they can charge ridiculously high hourly shop rates to do work. Way better just to learn how to do it yourself.

I’m in Oahu for the week. Have seen all kinds of old Toyota trucks but just spotted my first 60.
