I'm new to the forum, I have an '87 FJ60 that I've owned the past two years. Bought it in Arizona and had it shipped to Hawaii. No rust! I have a guy who does car repair on the side work on it in the past, and has been affordable and reliable. Had him recently fix a manifold leak (installed a rebuilt intake exhaust manifold, new gaskets etc). Just got my 60 back yesterday, drove good on a trip into town (exhaust leak sputtering noise gone, however, later that day noticed hesitation/stumbling in 2nd and 3rd gear. Drove it again this morning, more pronounced).

Researched forum and saw threads on dreaded stumbling/hesitation and fixes...buy Emissions Manual, check vacuum hoses, EGR valve, modulator, tune up/adjust valves, golf tee temporary fix etc. Figure with this repair, i need to try to find someone who knows Landcruisers. Saw the old thread on listing mechanics/repair shops who have Landcruiser experience. Didn't see a listing for Oahu, Hawaii. Thought I would ask before calling around on my own, does anyone know someone who has experience that is in Hawaii? Thanks!

I never found a mechanic with Land Cruiser experience. Did find a mechanic at a small repair shop in Kaneohe...he recently moved to Hawaii from N. Virginia with lots of experience working classic muscle cars. Fixed my stumbling issue and properly fixed my exhaust leaks.

There are hardly any Land Cruisers on Oahu and so it is expected finding a Land Cruiser specialist would be difficult. Try contacting @Aloha Jen as she/they have a 60 series on Oahu.

What's a she/they? When you guys find a Land Cruiser specialist on Oahu let me know! I think you kind of have to be your own Land Cruiser specialist out here (or in my case my husband, but I am a very good helper!). This thread makes me happy to see all these Hawaii Land Cruiser peeps, as its very rare that I ever see Land Cruisers on the road and its good to know you are out there. We should start a Hawaii Land Cruiser club....always more power in numbers.

Anyone tried using the local toyota dealership service? They should be able to work on original (unmodified) land cruiser mechanical issues.

I am in for a Hawaii land cruiser club.
I have used Honolulu Servco Toyota before for my 80, they are super busy all the time, but do good albeit expensive work.

I am happy to hear you are up for a Land Cruiser club. I am seriously going to try and get one together/organized. Nothing super formal, more relaxed and Hawaiian style....just something we could get to know other LC owners and bounce ideas off of. In fact, as of right now I feel like I just started one! He doesn't know it yet, but my husband and I are the first two members. HAWAIIAN ISLAND LAND CRUISERS is unofficially/officially started. I will look into starting a club page in the clubhouses section of the forum if anyone feels like being apart of it.

Old post I know, so who know's if anyone is still on here. But I wanted to see if anyone had found a good Landcruiser mechanic on Oahu? My 2004 Cruiser had the following error codes come up yesterday: C1223, C1251, C1252, and C1256. I've found some discussion on these so I may give it a shot myself, but I figured I'd check in. Thanks!

With a 2004, you should be good going to a reputable Toyota mechanic, I'd think. Modern enough that it won't be super unfamiliar. The problem for us with carb'ed 60 series is usually that all the old dudes who knew how to fix 'em are retired.

Bumping this thread in case anyone has any recommendations. Just moved here and struck out on the first place I went. Will now be chasing spongey brakes after a brake booster/master cylinder replacement

After 10 years of owning Land Cruisers (2 40’s, 60, 2 80’s) here on Oahu, we still have not found any mechanics to reliably work on LC’s, especially older ones. Unfortunately, it’s best to learn how to fix the issues yourself. We’ve never had a problem getting any parts OEM or quality aftermarket parts here in Hawaii. So it’s possible to get things done yourself with a little know how and correct tools/workspace.

Have you had any luck finding someone? Just moved out here with a LC200. Also, is the HAWAIIAN ISLAND LAND CRUISER group still a thing?
