I am not a fan of the 3.0L... You should see if it has had the head gaskets replaced; it seems to be a problem with that engine.

Pass on it. 3.0 is garbage! It's like buying a 40 series with the 1F, non-power, drum all around brakes, vacuum shift t-case and a 3spd t-case.... to put it in perspective for ya. Hold out for a 3.4 v6 offered a year later

Sounds like it's just lifted and not regeared as well.

Omfg... Some of you guys should be ashamed. The 3VZ in not that bad.

You could not give me a truck with the 3.slow. What is another year? Get the 3.4 if you want a V6.

Price is steep IMHO.

If you proceed though if its a bracket lift there is potential that a bracket lift could tweek the frame depending on how set up and if it was hammered offroad.

What do you want to use truck for is important with that intro price. If you regear, add locker, longer springs in rear for flex (assuming it is lifted with blocks)and some armour. The cost has really skyrocketed.

I'll post how I feel. Don't be scared of the 3.0. No its not the best engine but if you do routine maintence. The HG when it goes out and put a header with a better muffler on it you'll be good. But if I was going after a truck I'd buy it stock. That way you can mod it. Unless you trust the guy and he has paper work.

Funny that exactly describes the FJ40 I'm trying to sell for someone right now...

I've never been a fan of the 3.0 either but I know plenty of people who have had them with well over 250k on them. And a 3.0 is the best thing to start with if you want to put a 3.4 in it. As great as the 22re is it's kinda gutless unless you have the right gearing combo and better bbreathing. Personally I would buy an 89-95 over a Tacoma. Although the 2.7 and 3.4 drivetrains are great I really like the way the older trucks drive a lot better. And I've had 4 3.4 tacomas. Before I bought my current 05 (which I love) I looked at a few 89-95 extended cab trucks. But there just weren't any good ones around worth buying up here.

I too would look for a more stock example. With 33's and stock gearing I suspect that truck gets about the same mileage as your FJ60. 3.0's are pigs even stock. Price isn't terrible if it's in really good shape though.

hahahaha...you're in my boat. all i know is 3.0s suck. if it were dirt cheap then yes, cause you could use the extra $ for an engine and be done. but high miles, poor engine, high $...no

I'm also in favor of starting, and maybe finishing, with a stock truck. Wouldn't want a well used 3.0 with 33's and a lift. Would definitely get better MPG than a 60 though. 3.4 is a great engine, much more powerful than the 3.0, but MPG isn't much better.

I've had two 3.0's. One in an all stock 92 4x4 p/u and one in a 95 4Runner. I did the head gasket in the 4Runner. Wasn't a bad job. I like the 3.0 but it gets a bad rap. In my 92 p/u I got good gas mileage and I loved that truck. Just keep smaller tires on it.

I had a 94 4 runner with the 3.0 L. With a lift Turning 35's with stock gears for 10 years. I had 200k+ miles on it when I sold it. It wasn't a quick truck but it was tough. Engine treated me well as long as I kept her tuned and oiled correctly.... I'd say that price is way to steep. They are getting harder to come by and that's about the only reason someone would pay 5k for that year. If you like it that much go for it! Hardy little trucks they are.
