Got the fuel pedal installed. This one did not have a way to adapt a cable so I had to pull one out to my stash.

Once that's done I got in a nice drive.

After about 15 miles the temps started climbing uncomfortably so I returned to base. Almost made it but when it hit 225 I pulled over and let it cool off.

Looks like I've got no resistance at all in the clutch fan. I'll flush the motor good. Remember there was some sludge at the side drain when I installed the sensor.

Got home yesterday from a Cruiser haul.

Got them unloaded this morning and started in on the 40. Plan was to drain the block and put some block cleaner in and drive it a bit to let that stuff work.

Pulled the drain and it's clogged again

Sounds like the tubes in the radiator are clogged.
Maybe the thermostat is clogged up.
Perhaps a bunch scale broke loose after your treatment.

It's a newish radiator.

I drained it again. There was a little clogging at the drain again. Blasted it.

Refilled it with tap water. It's been sitting idling for 20
Minutes. It's at 182. About to drive again

Took another drive and did another flush. It's a bit better now. Once it cools off I will pull the block drain and see if I can get a good flow.

I feel like the block is cleaner now but I don't feel like the radiator is doing what it should. I can get it going 45 and it's not cooling the truck down. It will maintain temp but not walk it back any.

So. Drain. Pull radiator and take it for a cleaning.

It's only 80 today. This ain't gonna cut it.

I made a final flush. It was pretty gross but I think it's good now. I've only had to do this once before to this level......Weenie 3 many years ago.

Turns out this truck set up for 10 years. Got running for one and had been dead for over two.

This thread is gross…and now I want to give my 81 a massive enema as well.
Well I picked up the aluminum radiator today. Radiator shop said it was mega nasty

Got it installed and drove.

I put 45 miles on it. Highway and mixed backroads.

With AC and going 60+ it will heat up. It got to 210 and I shut the AC off and returned going 55 and the system cooled itself back to about 200.

Im not a fan of ACs in 40s. I hate the condenser slowing the airflow.

That said I called it good and loaded it up and its
Going home

Speaking of ac in a 40.. is it remotely effective? I’ve been around one with ac and it wasn’t hot outside
It will blow cold air into your face, sure. Effective? Not very. I don't install them here. I don't like the side effects.

My stock unit is effective - primarily for the missus. I need to replace my compressor clutch due to a whining bearing though. Removed the belt and thought - I’ll get around to it. Two years later and I’m not missing it. This is the type of vehicle that I only really want to drive with windows down anyway.

It would also be nice not to have all of that plumbing under the hood and the unit under the dash.

My 40 has four air settings:
Fry your feet and die of heat stroke - top on
Air conditioning on low - doors off
Air conditioning on medium - top off
Air conditioning on high - windshield down

Pulling the freeze plugs would have been great. This saga reminded me of “mud” motor of mine😂
