I'm looking at Krylon COLORmaxx and Fusion All-In-One spray paints. They both come in smoke gray, both are alkyd enamel based paint, and both claim to not need a clear coat for durability. They have slightly different drying times but the same 2 hour or 48 hour recoat time. The All-In-One claims superior durability and maximum rust protection. Which one did you use, and did you add an enamel clear over it? Thanks.

Smoke gray seems to be the go-to color in any brand... I used Rustoleum dark machine gray and like it; supposed to be a bit more durable.....

I used Smoke Gray on my Pig . I like the look. This has been on about 2 years. No clear topcoat but I think I like the look of that Industrial above a bit better.

Do you remember the brand and line of paint?

Mighty interesting revelation about the actual size of the BFGs..... I really like the KM2s - glad I got a set before they were all gone!

255/85-16 KM2 are still available and they are 32.5” x 9

Real good size

Dang right you are...... haven’t even gotten mud on the tires yet! :hmm:

What is this mud you speak of?

It's actually a dirty mess right now, I was planning on washing it today after some road testing on a local forest service road last weekend!

Scouting for firewood is the real reason for cruising FS roads!

So I guess the consensus is enamel gray in whatever flavor you want is what people look for. Doesn't matter the brand of paint or particular line within that brand. And nobody clear coats them.

@imyahucklbrry what extra work would I need to do for touchups if I clear coated over enamel? I'm painting a bumper with a stainless enamel rattle can and trying to decide if I should clear coat it or not.

I don't think it's really needed. The clear seems a little less durable than the enamel. Plus, the beauty of just paint is easy anytime touch ups.

So nobody experiences fading of gray enamel rattle can exposed to the elements?

We have a thread going about a rattle can pewter match. The closest seems to be Dupli Color SS100, and the consensus was it needed to be clear coated if used on something like a bumper that's exposed to the elements. But I don't want to clear coat it if that will make touchups a pita later.

@Cruiser Corps is selling canned Pewter again. It’s great paint.
