About two months ago my key fob wouldn’t unlock the cruiser. It locks just fine, chirps & lights flash once to lock and twice to unlock but it won’t unlock the doors. I have to use the key to unlock the doors after hitting the remote to disarm the alarm. Drivers lock switch works fine and locks/unlocks all 4 doors, I replaced the alarm ECU (RS300) yesterday and re-programmed the fob but it still won’t unlock the doors. If I put the key in and turn it twice it will unlock all 4 doors. Today I noticed that the passenger switch will only lock the doors but won’t unlock – is this related? I disconnected the switch and pulled off the door panels and kick panels to trace the wire harness but couldn’t find anything visually wrong.

Anyone had this problem or have an idea of where the signal might be interrupted? I can’t find any wires that are disconnected and have no idea why it’s locking but not unlocking.
Any help would be appreciated.

Have you taken the battery out?
Unscrewed it from the key blank?
Taken the silicone liner out and cleaned it well?

You will find moisture behind the the one that is inop at the contact breaker. wash ONLY the silicone in warm water and dish soap. Clean the other contacts with a lint free towl and reassemble and test. Moust of the time when customers have this issues I can take sit apart and clean and get back together before they know what I did. I just smile! But only if it works!...

Remote is relatively new – bought new from toyota bout 5 months ago. The button to lock and unlock is the same one – top of remote with ribs on it. I did take it apart and no moisture is present behind either button. The signal is being sent from the remote to the truck since it chirps twice to unlock the doors – they just don’t unlock. If I hit the button again truck chirps once and I can hear the doors attempt lock again. This is frustrating. Any other ideas?

It's covered under the 12 month warantee..............take it to the parts desk. they will verify and replace. If it's in the key.

I am unaware if the problem exists past the key.

Umm.. what year Landcruiser is this on? I ask because you say you turn the key twice it unlocks all 4 doors. As far as I know, 80 series landcruiser don't have that feature. SO is this a 98+ LC ?

EDIT:  mine does unlock like this too (I just didn't realize it since I always use the remote now)

Oops.. I just checked.. mine unlocks all when I turn it twice also. Its just I never unlock it with the key

When unlocking with the key.. does it disable the alarm too? It doesn't on mine. So if I arm/lock the LC with the remote, I have to disarm/unlock with the remote. If I unlock with just the key, the alarm will go off.
I'm not sure if something is wrong, or do the two alarm systems differ this way. I have the TVSS not the RS3000.

I have a 97. Using the key won't disable the alarm, that's why I'm so annoyed with the unlock not working via the remote. If you forget to disarm and use the key the alarm goes off, I usually do this early in the morning when I'm half asleep. I know my remote sends the signal because the light flash and it chirps. The double turn to unlock all 4 doors is something I stumbled on when trying to fix my problem & is helpful when letting others in your ride with non-working remote unlock. I take it that this (lock but won’t unlock) issue has never happened to anyone before??? Does anyone know where I should start troubleshooting next?

I am having this exact same problem! Key fob locks, but won't unlock. Has anyone come up with a solution for this yet or even heard of it? Looked at the manual on SLEE but no luck there either.

Any ideas? :bounce::bounce::bounce: Please!!

Same issue... Keyfob locks, wont unlock although lights and chirp confirm receipt of signal. Passenger switch does the same (locks but will not unlock). Driver switch works fine. I have the RS3000. Confirmed the passenger button is good (continuity across pins with switch out of circuit) and i traced the wire to the rs3000 unit under the seat.

Im thinking it may be that ecu until i read this. Did anyone ever figure this one out.

10year old bump!

Another bump.

Having the same issue. My key fob sends the signal but will only lock the doors. It wont unlock ( just disarms the alarm) and like the op, i set my alarm off occasionally especially because my chirp doesnt work so i have to watch for the lights to flash twice to know the alarm is disactivated.

Im sure the other posters here have solved this issue. Its a shame they only care about the issue themselves and dont care enough to post the solution. Im the third one on this thread to report the identical issue. Can anyone help? Thanks!!!

Mscruiser, u saying u have the same problem?
Im going to post the solution as soon as i figure it out, but ive had zero time lately to spend a few hrs diagnosing so ive just lived with it.

I think I have more than one issue going on-- but I did discover that my battery was down to 12.29 V-- and this impacted the ability of the door to lock properly when the LC was not running-- and I was using either the keyfob or the toggle switch on the driver or passenger door. So check your battery voltage-- and make sure it is adequate. It should be around 12.6V-- and alternator should be charging your battery at around 14+ V.

Ok guys. I have had the same issue and have identified the cause. I have a 2008 76 series landcruiser that has just over 200k on the clock. I have owned it since new.

A couple of months ago the unlock function on the key fob stopped working. The lock function on the remote key fob worked fine. When the fob was pressed to unlock the doors the indicators would flash to show a signal had been received but the door locks would not operate. Lock and unlock worked fine with both the key in the drivers door lock or by using the switch on the arm rest.

I have a Toyota workshop manual that provided a schematic for the door lock system. From this I decided the problem had to be in the Door Assembly Relay located in the driver door. Bought and installed a new one - problem still there. Unfortunately the workshop manual is deficient in that the schematic does not show the complete circuit including the signal receiver for the remote key fob nor the connection to the indictors. The signal receiver for the remote key fob is located in the middle of the dash on my VDJ landcruiser. The receiver was receiving the signal (hence the flashing indicators) and sending out a signal to unlock the doors. The signal it was sending out was not being received by the Door Assembly Relay in the door, thus there was a break in the wire between the receiver and the controller.

It turns out the wire was broken in the loom that runs from the door frame into the door. I suppose the many times the door has been opened and closed over the years eventually fatigued the wire and broke it. Anyway fixed the wire and now all good again.

Hope this info helps someone. The problem drove me nuts. I could find similar or the same symptoms for 80/100 and 70 series cruisers but no one who had resolved the problem.

Regards all
Chris
