KDSS Valve not covered under Warranty

Problem is I'm afraid of the Toyota dealers near me and need to find a store that can ease my mind with touching that system. I was going to get spacers installed originally at Toyota but they were quoting me 10 hours of labor ($120 per) + replacing all kdss parts... I was born at night... But not last night:ban:

Sir, what kind of spacers are you referring to? Body lift spacers, and does Toyota offer to install these at the dealer? I have a 200 also and I am contemplating some kind of lift in the future. From what I understand, upgrading the suspension with OME options will only give you maybe 2-2.5 inches.

Thank you,
Mitch

Search this: Toyota Land Cruiser Spacer part# 43136-60020 this is only good for about a 1 inch lift

Refer to others regarding lifts as I'm not savvy in that department!

10 hours to install spacers?? 90 min per side MAX!!! Then so am alignment.

I agree I believe an hour a side would suffice(unless everything is rusted)... Not many dealers see cruisers and I think they didn't want to deal with it so they charge so much in case they screw something up.

@Romer: If you're talking about the Autonation on Arapahoe, I currently have one of their service writers working on getting ours replaced. Since our truck came from Maine the rust on the KDSS bleeders is pretty substantial (especially compared to what us spoiled CO people are accustomed to) - if they end up doing this, which at this point I expect they will, maybe that will give you ammo to go back and get this done.

Update: I dropped our '13 LC with significant rust on the KDSS accumulator assembly off at the Autonation Toyota Arapahoe dealer today, for replacement of the KDSS accumulator and possibly suspension pieces under Toyota's CPO warranty coverage. The service writer I have been working with is Bill, and so far he's been a straight shooter. They also provided me a rental. Will continue to update with hopefully good news.

This was all predicated upon my complaint a few weeks ago that the truck was at least 1/2" to 1" lower on the left versus the right, and while Bill said his tech said that's technically within some Toyota spec, Bill felt that not being able to service the KDSS system (tech broke off a tool tip trying to loosen the screws) was reason enough to get this covered.

Rusty horror for reference - will snap a pic when I get the truck back too.

Bill called me almost immediately after I made the post above - which had me concerned for a moment that I was tempting the fates - but he was calling to say that his techs were estimating they may need to keep the car into tomorrow and beyond due to the difficulty of working against the rusted parts. No problem there, cool that he's giving me updates, also a little sad that there's enough rust to matter under the LC. Hopefully being a CO truck from this point forward will stop anything else under there from being a problem.

Sounds like you had reason the KDSS needed to be adjusted to make it level. Mine was level and there position was it should never require adjustment. Mine wasn't anywhere near that bad. Been meaning to make time to spray treat it to get it to move and then treat it so it doesent rust

Glad you got yours resolved

Hey guys, update on my rusted KDSS.

Took 200 in for a oil change this past Monday and asked them about replacing my rusted valve so I can add front spacers. With a few conversations with tech/advisor they said it would be a 50/50 chance they would replace it.

Once the tech did the vehicle inspection, he found a leaking front strut that could be replaced under warranty. Now that he couldn't get valve undone (broke tool to get it off) he called Toyota and they instantly replaced the strut/valve! I do know even if strut was not found Toyota would have fixed valve regardless.

I recommend if you buy a cruiser you at least have a cpo warranty because I doubt they will pony up without basic warranty coverage.

Toyota is on Day 3 of trying to get my truck serviced. We have a Ram pickup rental that I'm pretty amused by in the meantime.

Edit: spoke with Bill and he's indicated that they are going to replace most or all of the KDSS system. I would be really sad about this were this not going to be covered by the CPO warranty. Will post pics of the new pieces once we have the truck back mid next week, as well as the service docs in case any of you need ammo to go to your dealer to get this dealt with in the future.

One last thing, I think they have a new design for valve btw!

Please post pics of the new valve when you can - very much appreciated.

TIA

Mine was replaced by Toyota CPO so you should be fine! You just have to stay calm and plead your case.

those are purdy

Use fluid film since there is no rust you're trying to break up and penetrate.
FF will prevent rust from forming, apply it semiannually and it'll look like new forever.
