Kaon Roof Shelf...

Once my small panels shipped on February 17, they made it to Massachusetts in 11 days, including about 3 hours in customs in LA. Things like sitting at an airport or being stuck in customs waiting to be processed are, unfortunately, luck of the draw events. I had an item I purchased from Colorado just after Christmas that sat in a USPS facility in Denver for about 10 days before finally making the trip to Massachusetts.

Before this shipment which sat at the airport and then customs for a long while, everything I have ordered from Kaon arrived in just a few days. Insanely fast... until this time.

Same. My initial shelf order arrived less than 4 days later. Amazing. On this shipment, the biggest delay was waiting for release at the airport in Australia.

So how accessible are these panels? I'm 6' and have the 1.5" AHC lift on 35s and can't realistically access these panels without really contorting myself (when the tailgate is up) or crawling up on the tailgate with it down.

Both options are out of stock according to Kaon website.
Are there others options to get ahold of one via 3rd party?

@El Skywalker - I couldn't find one anywhere, so ordered the Victory 4x4 version yesterday. I will be tossing the SAE hardware and replacing with metric, but it is just a shelf for light items, there can't be much difference.

I will check them out.
Thanks!

I just finished an email exchange with the parts guy at McGeorge Toyota and the part numbers you're looking for to get the single cup holder and hump combo are:

64933-60010-C0
64934-60010-C0

If you don't have the black interior, you would need to adjust the C0 at the end to match your interior color. I'm not sure if this part was used outside of the Heritage Edition, though I would expect it to be used in any 200 series that was sold without 3rd row seats. He said that the above parts are actually available. Info on partsouq.com was actually useful in tracking these parts down and it turns out that parsouq has the parts available:

The 2 cup holder version that those of us with Heritage Editions need to switch to in order to install the updated Kaon brackets are:

66992-60010-C0
66991-60040-C0

He told me that 66992-60010-C0 is on national backorder and may take a while to get, but 66991-60040-C0 is available. Partsouq does not appear to have either of these parts listed on their site.

I know it's stupid and I'm wasting some money here, but I decided to order a pair of each. The HE parts will give me a spare set in case I end up cutting the factory parts up. The non-HE parts, if they actually show up, will give me a cleaner solution. Looking at the parts diagrams, I'm pretty sure those of us with HE's should plan to remove the quarter panels to remove the other parts that attach to the hump from behind rather than trying to cut them in place. Even though Partsouq has a (much) better price on the HE parts, I decided to give McGeorge the business as they spent time helping me out.
The Heritage Edition / Toneau versions of the cup holders have arrived. It looks like no matter how we approach cutting those in order to fit the Kaon molle panels, there's going to be a rather unsightly 1.75"x3" hole left behind. So I think I would encourage those of us with HE's to try to find the 2 cup holder version to swap in. We might be able to only cut part of the hump off, but there are somewhat limited options to do that given what is connected to the rest of the panel and what isn't. I'll probably experiment with 1 of them and see what I can come up with. Here's a photo of the back side of the driver's side HE cup holder:

Maybe find someone techy that can 3D scan the part and model one in CAD that covers the space in the way that makes the most sense to you? I have zero skills in this arena, but my son has done some cool things. The only tip I'd suggest is to use ABS not PLA because PLA isn't good in heat and shrinks.

That's a potential solution; some sort of steel (or other suitable material such as wood) plate screwed on top could also cover up the hole and potentially look fine. I'm hoping that the 2 cup holder versions that I ordered show up :). The other thing I need to figure out is something that can cleanly cut through the material in the humps and leave a (reasonably) straight edge. I just spent a few minutes lining up the driver side molle panel over the driver side hump and it looks like it may be possible to fit the panels by cutting roughly the rear 3rd of the humps off without leaving a massive hole behind. I think that would allow 2 of the 3 hump area screw holes that can be seen in the photo to still be used as well, which would be good.

I like the changes they made in the HE for the most part (I didn't want the cool box, rear seat screens, or 3rd row seats), but as time goes on, there are a few changes that are proving to be a bit inconvenient. This is one of those. Another is that the HE's don't have the threaded holes in the cargo floor for the 3rd row seats, which presents a bit of a challenge in mounting some of the drawer units that are available; if nothing else it results in a less secure mount by only using the 4 tie down bolts.

I always kind of cringe when I think about all of the cargo sections that get thrown away by australian shops that do ute conversions. Think of all if the great parts, like the trim you are looking for, that get thrown in the bin. They are basically useless to them...

Yeah, it would be really nice to be able to purchase some of those parts potentially even at full price as they're hard to get. It looks like an old fashioned table top jig saw with a fine blade may do the trick in cleanly cutting through the plastic. Only problem is after sitting unused for an extended period, mine isn't working properly, so have to sort that out... It's always something :).

Full panels for sale it does not fit my car, but shipping from Europe
Largely out of curiosity, what's the fitment issue?

I find a dremel tool with a cutoff wheel followed up by a dremel sanding drum works pretty well on plastic. Sometimes having the flex cable allows me to get into tighter spots. I've also used an oscillating cutter (carpentry tool) with success for longer cuts.

I've always found it tricky to get a straight edge with the Dremel. The cutoff wheel would definitely go through the plastic though.

Anyone care to comment on accessibility? I've been considering both full width and skinny versions but not sure it's worth paying for the full version since it would be so hard to access. What are folks mounting or planning on mounting on these? Is anyone mounting stuff on the skinny ones? Thanks.

I have the smaller version. Unboxed yesterday. Ordered a 23mm hole saw bit that should arrive later today. I "plan" on installing tomorrow after replacing my starter battery and rewiring some things. Will take some pics when done.

I just received my small panels, haven’t installed them yet. Looking forward to hearing how your install goes.

I got around to installing the small panels today after spending way more time yesterday than planned on my battery project.

Install was straightforward. Instructions provided by Kaon are very good. I couldn't find a 22mm hole saw, instead ordered a 23mm from Amazon. Template was spot on.

Drill hole and loosely install the bottom bolts. Take off the top handles and be careful not to put any force against the captive nuts. The top side panel goes behind the handle. Again, do not put a lot of force on the captive nuts when starting the initial threads. (I learned the hard way when I did the original install of the shelf)

I didn't have any helpers around to get the shelf back on so used a Front Runner Wolf Pack Pro and 5 gallon bucket to rest the shelve on while securing to the handles.

In terms of accessibility, I'm 6'3" and it is a bit of a reach, but doable, to access with tailgate up. Much easier to access from the 2nd row. Not sure what I will put on these but know the right one will help keep things secure from falling on my sliding fridge mount when pulling the fridge out.

Kaon is an awesome company and that was really good on them to supply these at no charge and cover shipping.

Some pics of tools and what's in the attic.
