Howdy.

here´s the deal, I have a ´71 FJ-55 sitting on 44" mudders (have a thread about it back here somewhere) and since I got my hands on a beautiful HJ-61 I´m repairing now it seems I don´t "need" the pig anymore, but I just can´t get myself to sell it. So I got to thinking why not make it a long term project, something I can just tinker along with :)

So I thought some more and wanted to get a little feedback on my insanity :)

Would a FJ-55 chassis be able to hold a 6bt cummins with an auto and X-case from a ram-2500/3500 plus axles from said truck or just Dana 60s front and rear, and a pair of 46" inches front and rear? or would I be better of just finding a decent ram and swap the body?

The body and frame on the pig are really good, it´s the engine gearbox and X-case that need work.

I´d like to get a older 12valve engine (less wiring=better) and make some 300+ Hp with it (and more torque than a train)

..so basicly I want a smoke spewing monstrosity that can really haul ass :grinpimp:

It´s not something I´m set on doing yet, just an idea that I find really... tickling for a lack of a better word :flipoff2:

any thoughts? :D

been an avid subscriber of that thread, but that is a 4bt, granted I have seen another thread where a 6bt went into a pig (stock axles and all), my main concern is if the car as a whole can handle a 300-400hp 6bt when you really thrash it with really big wheels. weight and torquewise.

I know someone might say that a mildly tuned V8 gasser might be "better" but I have diesel in my veins and really want to own a 6bt powered 4x4.

It´d be used to drive in snow... probably similar to mud bogging (thus the powerneed), not alot of rockcrawling going on over here.

want to be able to do this doing 60mph rather than 15mph :P

I am currently transplanting the remains of a 1993 Dodge CTD into a Pig.

I have a 6bt, Dana 60, Dana 70, and NP 205. I am not sure what tranny I am going to use but I'll figure it out some day. Also I am going to be using Humvee wheels and tires with mag run flats with the run flat portion removed.

Currently the Dodge is striped to the frame and cab and next weekend I'll be pulling the engine and axles.

If you want details let me know.

All info would be very apriciated :) would be great to see some pics of your project

I would love to see any pics of a 6bt into a FJ55. One of my friends is converting his old Flexible from gas to 12 Valve 6bt. He first bought a newer city bus with the newer computer controled cummins...now he is sitting on that one thinking of his FJ40?...

i understand the diesel in the veins, but i think a 6BT is just rediculous overkill. you must have access to much better choices, no??

it´s the overkill that makes things fun :) on the otherhand I may be able to get a 12H-T, which was my inital idea, even bought a HJ-61 with a good 12H-T but I thought the body was too good to chop down so I rebuilt it :o

With a 6bt you also have to think of all the smoke you will spray on unknowing victims on the trail.

One young lady with contacts learned that you don't follow a 6bt in a jeep with no top.

I don't know where this originated from "if you have a diesel get ready for black smoke everywhere" phenonenom. On both my 6BT's, I rarely see any smoke & if I do it's only at startup & is barely a *puff.
