Hope you hold off on any Blackstone test until you drain & fill the oil at least 1-2x - just so you don't get back bad info.
And FWIW, bird dogging the motor is fine, it was SOP some 20-30 yrs ago, and my Dad who was a jet mechanic in Vietnam taught me to do it, and I can only remember 1 time in my life we were on the side of the road.
When you have hood struts a quick look takes about 2 texts worth of time. And ends up being far more productive.
