I am about to take my rig out west for a bit. I would love to have a 4x4 labs rear bumper with hitch. I still have my oem one and trailer hitch. I removed receiver due to ground clearance and departure angle issue. My Toyo 305/70 spare now is the problem. It fits nicely and behaves well for highway driving, but offroad, I am certain I could rip it off. for now, the plan is for it to ride 1600 miles tucked away and then stow it in the back when I head up to Engineers Pass and other places. The 4x4 labs appears to be my favorite right now, but I could probably ignore the weight of an ARB and learn to love it too. I have the ARB front winch bumper installed and love the look. So......anyone out there hate their rear bumper with tire carrier and want to go back oem? I am in Georgia.

I don’t think engineer pass will be an issue with your spare underneath the rig. It’s basically a forest service type road. You could run it in your Moms Subaru.

Your cruiser is going to love all this pampering you’re giving her. She’s gonna run so well and it’s going to feel so good when you finally finish (So to speak).
I have been driving it now for 3 years and have not had 1 issue appear other than egr sensor was not happy. I bypassed it with a resistor to keep CEL off. next time I get in the mood, i.may do a an egr block off. I needed the encouragement you gave back 2022

I needed the encouragement you gave back 2022 and looking back it was a tremendous job, but now worth it.

What about Imogene Pass? and should I dare....Black Bear?

Yesterday, I got jiggy with my OME 2862 and 2863 springs and new Nitrocharger shocks. I have never removed springs on the LC until now. I took 3 hours flat, including breaking tools out and putting them all back up. I ended up with about 1 to 1.25" of lift. No more body roll in turns, a little stiffer ride in rear. It woul

d prob help to have spare back there. I am going to install tire and see how clearance looks.

The alpine loop gets its difficulty rating from being remote, and consisting of narrow shelf roads. While there may be a few off camber or rutted out spots along the trails, I cant remember ground clearance being an issue. I did them with old partially worn out 315's.

Don't forget corkscrew pass, it's my favorite out of all the passes. Pay attention to road status as its very early in the season. Have fun!

All the pass's can dangerous and very deadly if you go off the edge ! clearance is generally not a issue. No problem on Imogene, Black Bear is easy doable just not for the Faint of heart this is the worst part over looking telluride

after that it's a series of tight switchback and narrow shelf roads.
If going to do the Alpine loop give your self a full day and pack a lunch ;)
Few more from the area.

As a novice off road driver, if my GX can do Black Bear and Engineer with a mild lift in the front and airbag trick on 33s, then your 80 should have no clearance issues. I remember one place before the steps that was a narrow ditch that was fairly deep and you almost have to drive straight across. I was worried I'd tear up my front and rear bumpers but I was able to get enough of an angle to get through with just a little scraping. Your spare would probably drag there but if you go slow enough, I am sure it would be fine. The "steps" aren't really about clearance.

Engineer pass is not challenging at all. If you do Mineral Creek, it can get a little rougher but still not hard.

I put spare back on today. 14" clearance by the axle and 16" at the bumper. It rides nice right there, but off road? you tell me? Here in Georgia, we just don't have serious obstacles unless you want them. I will have room to put inside when i get to CO. I am pretty stoked about going. Everytime I have been out west we flew and i had a rental. So, this will be my first time going a little further off road in CO. I hope I can go to UT in Jan, and then plan a trip to Death Valley/Mojave next year. The LC needs to make it 25k more miles!

Alpine loop? Id go like you have it. If it scrubs too much for your liking take it off and throw it in the back.

When I did the loop, I was on 315's and had a stock size spare under and it never scrubbed. Or if it did, i didn't notice.

When you heading out? Ive been itching for another alpine loop run.
