I'll be attending. Will not be camping, tho.
Are we meeting at the usual time, 8:30-9:00 in the staging area???

PS Any 'special' instructions this time regarding the staging area, trailer parking, etc??? I don't frequent Rausch's site.

I found this on Rauschs page from Lynn. It is a few weekends old and since we have a few weekends before we go it will probablly change again.

Here's what we have planned for this weekend.

The OHV group will use what space is left on the old staging area to park their truck trailers.

If you have a truck/trailer or RV you'll be parking across the street (there will be signs on the street and people around to direct you where to park). After you get parked and unloaded, you can then drive your trail rig over to the office to get checked-in.

If you are driving your trail rig to the park, you can come in our usual driveway and get checked-in.

After you are checked-in, and your group is not ready to take off, or if we run out of room, we'll send groups back across the street to get aired down, stage, and generally get ready to take off for the trails.

Tent campers can use our existing tent areas. Once that is filled up, then we'll send folks across the street to use the temporary area.

Thanks everyone for your patience. Hopefully we only have to do this for a couple weekends before the new parking and staging lots are done.

wheeling the 30th

I won't be wheeling June 30, it's the first day of shutdown at the steel mill where I work. Busy time for me. Will be at the CMCC Friday and Saturday can't make it Thursday. Gary S

The situation at RC changes every week. That was the set up 2 weeks ago. Last weekend was normal. Next week may be different. I'll try to post in advance when it changes.

The camping across the street is pretty nice if you have a group and most is surrounded so you can get loud without disturbing others or being disturbed by others.

Can't wait, finally got my CB setup in and ready to go this past weekend.

Going to pick up an s10(4.3, 700r4) and try to stuff it in the 40.
Lets see how good my mechanical and fab skills are.
Anyone want action on if I can pull it off in time.:)

Aso helped cut the new campsites last weekend, but their not being used yet.

Nothing like a challenge. GL. Make sure all the fumes are out of it.;)

Did you cut us some nice camp sites?

I think they turned out pretty well. Just stay tward the southern end.

I'll let you know when I get in around the tank, Jeff.

Sean,
Why go through all the work of an engine swap for a measly 4.3??? The work required is the same for a 350 swap as it is for a 4.3. That and there’s really no HP gain over your F motor. The Land Cruiser is a very heavy truck and you’ll be loosing all that low-end torque you now have with the F. Yeah, the 4.3 is probably an EFI set up and all, but you can get a bolt-on, stand-alone fuel injection unit for your F motor for far less money and aggravation than it will take for this type of swap. If you gonna bust you ass on a project like this make sure there’s a good pay-off waiting for you at the end in the area of power.
However, if you’re dead set on doing this then I suggest you talk to John Embry (CruiserJohn) first. He has the same motor in his 40 but with a different drive train than you’re going to use. Also make sure you have a lot of extra cash on hand cause the little things that you will need to complete this swap will nickel and dime you to death. And I mean to DEATH!!! Oh, and I hope your wife is a very understanding soul, too.
I’m sure you’ve done your homework on this already but the best years for the 700r4 are 88-92. The donor vehicle for the tranny should be a 4WD model too, as it has the thicker companion flange for mating the tranny to the engine (there's less chance of cracking the housing with the added stress a 4WD vehicle places on the drive train).

(hoping I didn’t sound like a total killjoy)

The later model 4.3 has a little over 200 hp and is a nice little engine. We are looking at putting one in ours as well with a TH350 behind it. You cant beat 18 to 20 MPG and a longer rear drive shaft than with the 350 SBC. You can also set it up to accept a 350 SBC at a later date if you palce the engine mounts in the right spot.

We have the other cruiser with an older 350 in it and it has a little more pwer than the 2.7 4 cyl in my Tacoma. Now with new gears on my truck, it has tons more mechanical advantage, which out performs the 350. Also I am getting 22 MPG, while the 350 is only getting 10 MPG if we're lucky.

Sean, if you need a hand let me know, I have a guy that can do the wire harness and computer for $500, which I think is the hardest aprt of the project. The rest is just measureing and welding for the most part.
(bearer of good news :D )

My two cents... if you plan to run larger than 35's, you may find that the 4.3 lacks power to clean larger tires out via spinning... hence, you may want the 265HP of a crate TBI 350. I think the 4.3 would do well with 35's or smaller...... plus, you'll need the extra HP to overcome gearing on the road if you are in the 36" + range... unless you regear of course... at anyrate, the torque and power range of the GM engines is on the high side, so you should consider low gearing to compensate for the loss of low end torque...

OK, deep breath, here we go

Jeff, what makes you think your daughter would get anywhere near my garage with 2 women here. I doubt you'd be able to find her all day.

Mike, I like the 4.3. I have one in my fullsize chevy pu that I was using to pull the 4runner. And it gets good mileage. This is important because I want to drive it more. I have an early f(135) with the siamesed ports and insanely priced parts. To keep it I have to get rid of my power steering, to upgrade(F, 2F) I have to remove the power brakes. I'm not willing to do either. Plus the 3 speed sucks. The 700r4 with it is an 1989 4wheel drive. I got it dirt cheap.

JT, I think to keep it easy(for now) I'm going to run a carb, but keep all the parts till later. $500 puts a bullet in the cheap part.

Jeff, I'm looking to run 36's. So I think it will be on the border hp wise. And for the record, I HATE MUD.:)

I hear ya, Sean. You too JT, and I respect both of your inputs. I'm certaily no expert.
Just wanted to point out some of the info from when I was researching my V8 swap. Well, it wasn't really a swap cause it never had a motor in it in the first place, but I had access to a fresh Chevy motor. Anyway, whether you like mud or not, you'll still need to clear the lugs of the gooey stuff now and again and there's nothing like doing that with 8 cyl's instead of 6! The 700r4 has a nice first gear for such occasions too, plus the 28% overdrive is sweet on the highway!

No matter what you think, there's no substitute for cubic inches. Period.

All I want is a 40 that starts every morning, does 70 on the highway, wheels where I want, and drives home at the end of it all.

Am I asking too much?

Not at all..... pull that engine wiring harness and bring it to Rausch on the night of the 29th for the meeting and bring some form of reliable lighting... we can weed out the things you won't need and get it ready to install. I have great literature and notes from when I did mine as well as being able to look at the 55's harness, 5.7 and 4.3 are really close to exact.

My dad got over 300K miles on a 4.3 FWIW....

I don't think I can get it done fast enough. I don't pick it up until Tue the 26th.

I'll still be at the meeting. I'm still wheeling the 4runner.(although I think some of those parts will fit the 78 front axle. hmmmmm...):)

Or did you mean just the harness(duhh) I can do that.
