June Hurricane Creek Run - June 24-26 2016

I think there were only 2 ground tents, and everybody else was either in hammocks or truck sleeping. It's a great site though. The creek is just right for bathing!

Ditto! That pile of gravel was there in early May too. We thought it was crowded with 4 trucks

Now I am thinking of another trip up that way.

We had a monster 6 person tent and still lots of room. There was a bench cut path off to the side of the entrance that at least 2 more trucks could have parked on. After setting up camp at Wolf Creek, we had additional visitors come and check out the falls.

Had an incredible time with everyone this weekend!! Thank you for being patient with me as all travel times were very loose.

Some points for future HC'ers:

1. I have GPS coordinates for the places we stopped.
2. It takes 2.5-3 hours to get from the HC trailhead to round mountain
3. There is some awesome camping in Martha Sundquist that we need to take advantage of next time.
4. Order of travel should be:

Day 1 - Meet at Sierra Nevada a bit earlier in the day, around noon. Following that, HC trailhead to camping area (either wolf creek falls or round mountain)
Day 2 - Either go to Wolf Creek falls or go from wolf creek falls to max patch - from max patch, either go down to Martha Sundquist via Del Rio / Deep Gap / Tom Town through Brown Gap or go up to find the Rich Mountain Picnic Area / Fire Tower.
Day 3 - explore more locally and hit the highway home

Alternate day 2:
Head from campground out to Ramsey Cascades in the Great Smoky Mountains.



That being said, I was extremely happy with the order of events this weekend. Super laid back and relaxed is the way I like to be

Awesome time and great getting to meet folks from all over. This was my first multi-day event and it was a great one. I wish I had gotten to chat more and look at everybody's rigs, but I spent 60% of my camping time unpacking, cleaning, and repacking my junk; truly sometimes less is more. Can't wait to get together again. Would love to host or tag along with anybody traveling up this way.

2 things, Steve or Chris, what was that go-to wine? And what was the place off of BRP like Max Patch except you can drive up on it? I'm not just bad with people's names, ha-ha!

Fair warning: do not go to Black Balsam if you care, at all, for your paint job! You will get lots of scratches. That being said, it's a freaking awesome view and a great trip.

This looks like a fun trip as well, can't wait until next month!

Ahh yes… The Apothic Red is really good. I haven't tried the Melodramatic.
