I would recommend against using a flat paint. Dirt loves to get into the pores and it just never gets good and clean.
Agreed. However, Krylon has (and they're the only ones I know of who do) a Semi-Flat finish (different than Satin). The only thing I don't know is in what colors it's available. If the body/paint prep is smooth enough, it'll be smooth enough to clean (have used Black S-F for years, and it cleans up well........)

so the guy is quoting around $200 ish for a rear sill....it's a complete and I only need part of it.....so I am still shopping around....gonna send him measurments for an exact cost tomorrow.

if you order from him, let me know. I want a battary tray.
Thanks!

What's behind door # 2?

So I was freaking out this morning as I put the drill on the first rivet but knew I had to take off the 1982 diamond plate to see what was underneath.

bondo, rust, and some original paint....overall not to bad.

Just kind of cleaned it off enough to see what I am working with. Will get to cleaning it in earnest tomorrow.

Also got the fenders off.

The drivers side has some serious damage from the fenders not being cut out properly when 35s flexed. As Lash has explained to me....the rear tires travel up but also back as evidenced by third pic below. It's a bad camera shot but the area with no paint and the green paint to the left of it are bent in from rubbing.

diamond plate

any body know what the black sticky stuff is....rust converter or some adhesive to seal the plates against the metal?

I also took of the door stops, hinges, latches, gear shift boots, some emblems, the gas door and filler neck, etc.

Also found out why that bolt was holding tight despite a gallon of kroil on the rear foot of the roll cage.....TOTALLY rusted out.....more metal work:mad:

you had better stop or you are gonna get upside down like alot of the rest of us.....

well there isn't anything else to do but take the tub off......hmm....nha.....the quest is to get the metal work done, then some bondo work, paint and reassemble.

i got a good price so I think i could get my money out or atleast close to it....hopefully I won't have to test that theory.

Strong work John. I am lagging behind on the tear down, so I guess we can practice on yours.
