glad I could contribute to the delinquency of another 'spro bro :D

Well, THIS espresso junkie was even longer overdue for a fix. I got hooked on espresso late last year and spressomon has been my Sensei, feeding me tips and tricks via email all this time.

Until this week, I've been able to pull shots two or three times a day since the day I bought my machine. I haven't gone a single day without espresso since the day I bought my machine. This past week, though, I've had to slum it and survive off of mere coffee.

I tried to take my coffee making to the next level for the trip, going so far as to bring my electric grinder, scale, and fresh expertly roasted whole beans, perfectly aged to peak in flavor while on the trail.

It didn't work. I needed some espresso. And here's Dan, a 5th degree espresso black belt and my long-distance trainer setting up shop a few yards away.

I walk over and try not to act too interested. I play hard to get, not wanting to look to desperate or have to resort to begging. Luckily, he sensed my situation and offered to pull me a shot.

YES! FINALLY!

I carefully watched the process with anticipation, a process that only a true addict could appreciate and tolerate. First, the beans are weighed and ground. Then the portapresso is warmed up, milk is carefully steamed and expertly microfilmed, lastly the portafilter
is filled & tamped and the machine is charged with the onboard air system.

The moment of truth is upon us...

He pours me a one-off spressomon original design, an apple with a feather sticking out of the top.

I take a sample and declare it a gift from the heavens. Just like the double rainbow we saw yesterday.

Finally, I am whole again.

Well I feel like a coffee idiot right now with my camp stove percolator.

Come, step toward the light...

Meanwhile, the rest of the group is stirring and making the pilgrimage to Dan's truck.

Pasquale is on deck for breakfast, and blows us away with his breakfast frittata. Pulling off this feat took a little MacGuyver-ing... normally you start a frittata on the stove and finish in the oven. He had to constantly rotate the pan on the camp stove and finish the top off with a torch.

Check it out...

It all came together at the last minute, right before it disappeared.

Impressive. I thought that I'd latched onto cool stuff years ago when i stumbled upon a deal for a Snowpeak stove - it pales... Can't top staring at the details in the photos; now that would be a cool company to design for.

Speaking of cool stuff, that Snowpeak torch Pasquale is wielding is one of the next things on my must-have list. It does everything from cooking food to starting fires with wet wood. We used it for both.

I figure I'll use it to light my yet-to-be-purchased Big Green Egg.

Don't worry guys, the rest of us humans had simple coffee drips.

The pelican case that Dan has with CNC machined exact-fit storage foam for each item of the espresso kit is just as impressive.

I'll just have a Diet Mt. Dew and a pop tart...

I get it. Everyone has that one thing that they won't leave home without. For WCT49 it's his Amex card, for Bodean it's pics if the Purdy Truck back when it was purdy, for me .... Two ply bath tissue. Makes perfect sense! ;)

funny it is...but the first time I went on a big salmon fishing trip with Cruiserdrew...he warned me the point captain (John) of the trip didn't tolerate messing around in the early hours for anything more than getting out of bed and shortly thereafter wading and throwing line for silvers. So, being the rebel without a cause kinda guy I am :D, I packed the portable espresso kit all the way to Cordova. Gotta have it ;)

The first morning John was a bit grumpy and a little impatient...but I was way earlier, than his steadfast 6:00AM deadline to leave for fishing, prepping my brown juice. Normally he'd be perfectly content with regular coffee, if there is such a thing :D; but after the first cappuccino on that first morning...John said "take your time...we'll leave when we've all had cappuccinos..." or something to that effect. :D

I think that's more "Andy" :) He is always up early and ready to roll. He pressures you without saying a word every morning. Even me, who is on east coast time zone so 3 hours earlier then the rest of them, wakes up and he is already up!!
