Any word on how Toyota will replace the 105? Will there be a barebone edition of the 200 for African militias, UN agencies and Iran weapons inspectors? Or will they have to rely on the longbed 70 series?

They may or may not replace the 105;
I would bet that will they do what they always have done,
come out with a few different versions for particular markets;
ie: bare bones for UN agencies,etc, possibly with a solid front
axle like the 105, diesels,manual trannies, etc,etc

The only reason the 105 existed is because Toyota was able to mate a 100 body onto a 80 series chassis. I would imagine that would be far more difficult with the 200.

Toyota could continue to produce the 105 for a while, although I havne't heard that as being an option.

They very likely will have a bare bones 200, but bare bones would simply mean cloth seats, no navigation, etc. I'm sure it would have the same IFS suspension.

Toyota has just redesigned the 70 series front end to allow the fitting of its newest V-8 diesel and I think they may come out with some new versions. I would expect the 70 series to fill in any gap left with the 105.

The 105 market was probably extremely small anyway, so I doubt Toyota is too concerned about it. Plus a number IFS 100s were and are used in heavy duty overseas service in the military and government use, so an IFS 200 could still fill those rolls.

I thought the 105 used a different frame than a 100, but not an 80 chassis?

My understanding is that the suspension/frame is definately based on the 80 series. I'm sure there were some modfications made to both the frame and the 100 body to make the two fit.

I'm sure the 105 is a fairly low production model, because it was sold as the "cheap" version of the Land Cruiser and could only be found in a couple of overseas markets. So, I can't imagine Toyota would design an entirely different frame for this model.

The 105 was popular in oz(still a small market in world terms) but was too slow. What it needed was the V8 diesel fitted into its already wider frame.
The 76 series which is tiny on the inside by comparison,is supposed to be its logical successor ,however the troopy can still do the tasks of the old 105 by carrying up to 11 passengers.
Australia was getting a forward facing rear seat in the last model troopy but dimwits at the dealer hadnt worked there long enough to remember what a forward facing rear looked like.
Thus,they were unable to tell me if its available on the new models.
The rear seat came with a special front passengers seat that come forward and twisted and then tilted to make it easier for passengers to alight.

I don't think Toyota will go with a 205 model ( replace to 105 series ) with solid axles .. just design the 76 version and include worldwide ( that never do the same with the 77 ) along the V8 single turbo to do the job of 105 series ..

200 Series will do most of the job as the 105 do .. and for only those really tough places the 76 take the way ..

OMG I love the base 200 series!

Yummy! Any idea of the MSRP for that one?

Site says it comes with the V8 Diesel 1VD-FTV.

Twin turbo intercooled .. common rail, variable vanes turbos, but sure I hope we can get more than 350 Hp from this V8 !

I personally believe that like other Toyota engines (2JZ-GTE or 3S-GTE) the 1VD-FTV is tuned down for street use. I bet a little more boost, a free-flowing downpipe all the way back, will give it more reliable horsepower.

Then you can start picturing bigger turbo/intercooler, injectors, better engine management and you'll be pumpin' out a lot of power.

I would leave it stock, though! :hillbilly:

.... you can't afford it? ;)
If it's as durable as a 81 or a 105, I wouldn't mind paying $50K and keeping it for 20 years...

Modern cars are not designed to be relaible ( or not as same at least ) as old ones .. all of us know that ..

I'm pretty sure that with bigger exhaust ( straight pipe ) and simple chip you will get much more than 100 HP and 200 lb/p more ..

That's why I used the word "if"... :D

I agree there is a huge market for the mining and the armed forces in oz, there still is a base model out now ,with the standerd options of Desil, solid front axle 100 series (105 Series). You can get these trucks in a GXL or a base ( vynal interior) model from the dealership.
dont know for sure but i hope they bring it out in the new 200...205... in a base model...

cheers fishy:D

I know on my 7M-GTE I put a 3" exhaust and divorced downpipe, 2.5" intercooler pipes into a 3" intercooler, a CAI, I was seeing 2lbs of PSI increase and the difference was night and day between the stock setup and the setup above. Cranked the boost another 4 lbs and i couldn't keep the tires from spinning.

I wana see what them ausies will do to these V8s :D
