Any word on how Toyota will replace the 105? Will there be a barebone edition of the 200 for African militias, UN agencies and Iran weapons inspectors? Or will they have to rely on the longbed 70 series?

The only reason the 105 existed is because Toyota was able to mate a 100 body onto a 80 series chassis. I would imagine that would be far more difficult with the 200.
Toyota could continue to produce the 105 for a while, although I havne't heard that as being an option.
They very likely will have a bare bones 200, but bare bones would simply mean cloth seats, no navigation, etc. I'm sure it would have the same IFS suspension.
Toyota has just redesigned the 70 series front end to allow the fitting of its newest V-8 diesel and I think they may come out with some new versions. I would expect the 70 series to fill in any gap left with the 105.
The 105 market was probably extremely small anyway, so I doubt Toyota is too concerned about it. Plus a number IFS 100s were and are used in heavy duty overseas service in the military and government use, so an IFS 200 could still fill those rolls.
My understanding is that the suspension/frame is definately based on the 80 series. I'm sure there were some modfications made to both the frame and the 100 body to make the two fit.
I'm sure the 105 is a fairly low production model, because it was sold as the "cheap" version of the Land Cruiser and could only be found in a couple of overseas markets. So, I can't imagine Toyota would design an entirely different frame for this model.
Site says it comes with the V8 Diesel 1VD-FTV.

.... you can't afford it?
If it's as durable as a 81 or a 105, I wouldn't mind paying $50K and keeping it for 20 years...
Then you can start picturing bigger turbo/intercooler, injectors, better engine management and you'll be pumpin' out a lot of power.
That's why I used the word "if"...Modern cars are not designed to be relaible ( or not as same at least ) as old ones .. all of us know that ..
The 105 was popular in oz(still a small market in world terms) but was too slow. What it needed was the V8 diesel fitted into its already wider frame.
I agree there is a huge market for the mining and the armed forces in oz, there still is a base model out now ,with the standerd options of Desil, solid front axle 100 series (105 Series). You can get these trucks in a GXL or a base ( vynal interior) model from the dealership.
dont know for sure but i hope they bring it out in the new 200...205... in a base model...
