It's got the old school B&M sport shifter. Easy to install, very positive shift so that you don't have to look at it as you choose a gear and has the capacity for all 4 forward positions.
Thanks Bob. Actually, the fridge is pretty small but the keeps it well stocked for me. She'd rather see me stumble from the shop to the house than go out to the local tavern
I just dug it out and I will take it to work tomorrow and scan it. PM me your email addresses and I'll send it over when I get home tomorrow. There's a bunch of my illegible notes and squiggles on some pages but you can still use it. I also have the pages from the GM service manual with the error codes for the OBD-II port and I'll scan that as a separate PDF.
nice truck. I posted a few notes on your vortec rig thread. But wanted to share a few issues I've had.
(1) I had to replace my dist cap and rotor button one time as the dist cap came apart in pieces and left me stranded...it backfired one time and it was lights out. (2) had and issue with melted or cooked spark plug boot and wires... which also fouled some spark plugs...replaced all and runs good. (3) had a MAP sensor get out of range but did not set a code...my mechanic friend found that and we replaced the sensor and ran fine. I would have thought it would set a code of the map sensor as the truck was running like crap....but it never did. Your setup is really close to mine..
Wouldl like to trade notes on this.(overall swap and issued and how you fixed them).. I want to get my A/C running and also make sure I'm good on my cooling issues.
I've now replaced plugs, wires, cap, rotor, cleaned the fuel filter. I took it our for a run and it went like a champ until I hit overdrive and then it stumbled like crazy. If I put my foot in it and downshifted, it would pull great until I let it kick into OD again and then it would start to stutter and stumble. I've found some posts on a Chevy site that indicate a worn distributor gear can cause this so I'm going to change that out. Do you think this could be a fuel pump/ flow issue?
I don't know about the fuel setup because you are saying its an issue once it gets into overdrive.. You do have a functional vehicel speed sensor and you don't have any trouble codes set right?
I don't think its fuel related if the fuel pressure checks out. Has the truck run OK in the past?
I don't know what type fuel filter or pump you are running? Fuel Injected engines are really sensitive to fuel pressure issues.
I assume its not going into overdrive until it reaches 55 or 60+mph?
VSS is hooked up, just ran codes this evening and nothing. Maybe the VSS is bad but wouldn't that send a code?
Since I've had it together, I've had this problem intermittently. Goes away for a while and then reoccurs, sometimes worse than others.
Fuel filter is a K&N washable unit with a 10 micron screen. I washed it out today to see if there was debris. Looked clean and ran the same after cleaning. Fuel pump is a basic inline one from Summit or Jegs. I'm wondering if this is the culprit.
Hits OD at about 55 unless I'm still in it fairly hard.
I'll ask my freinds at the shop if they have any ideas...I'm sure they will want to know what the fuel pressure is. I think if the VSS sensor was bad it would set a code. Its wierd that its only happening in
4th gear. Right now I don't have any other ideas to look at. Just an observations...it would seem to me that you are using as much fuel in the lower gears as you would in overdrive, so why would fuel issue be apparent in overdirve? Just a question in my mind. Truck pulls strong up through the gears and then misses at times while in overdrive..is that accurate?
Your fuel pump has to be rated for a 5.7 Vortec which is something like 55Lbs of pressure running (you'll need to verfiy that) but it does say in the shop manaual. As noted fuel injected engines are very sensitive to this...you have to use the right pump and filter setup or you will have issues. I wiould have to say from where I sit...you need to make sure your filter and pump are correct. I use the GM filter because I can buy one anywhere and they are very common, I use the walbro pump becasue its one of the best...I've had the same pump on my truck from the start (day 1).
SIMON SOUNDS LIKE you are experiencing THE PROBLEM when THE TORQUE CONVERTOR CLUTCH is APPLied STEPPING ON THE BRAKE unlocks the torque convertor. when in lock up mode there is no longer any slippage in tc its a direct drive to the input shaft from the flywheel. and will transmit every little hiccup the motor does. just for giggles check the maf see if there is any build up on the front side of the wire element. i have used crc mas air flow cleaner with good results. it also will not set a code unless its really f@*@ed
