I finally got around to installing my snorkel this week. It's a pretty easy task once you get past the horror of cutting a great big hole in your otherwise perfect right front fender .

Big thanks to Andrew aka Rusty Pig who gave me his hole saw to make the big cut. The hole saw is ready for the next Mudder who needs it. I will send it to you on my dime provided that you promise to post up in this thread when you are done with it and send it on to the next in line.

I saw the snorkel in person today and it came out CLEAN!

I can't wait to put one on mine.

Nice Looking Rig.
Snorkel that you installed , Was it purchased from a mudder here ?

I have seen a few for sale that were fibreglass (if you look hard for the material used), and Im thinking one hit and its cracked.

This is the Safari Snorkel brand, it's Australian made and brought to the US by ARB. Several Mud vendors carry them. It's made of abs plastic and is very durable. Excellent build quality and very nice fitment. I wouldn't use a fibreglass one, too brittle.

Simon,
What size hole saw is that?

95 mm

... and where exactly it comes out of the fender.

The easy answer is out of the large round opening about 1/3 of the way back on the inner fender. I actually used the square opening about 1/2 way back. The hose just fits through this one and that leaves the larger opening free in case I need to reach through into the inner fender to access wires etc. I added some welting around the hole after this picture to keep the hose from getting cut.

Elbert, I'm sorting this one out right now. The snorkel hose runs directly into the round opening on the right side of the air filter box. I cut the opening flush and there's a small amount of clearance for the hose to slide through. I want to make this fitting air/ water tight but still have it be easily pulled apart for service if I need to remove the filter box. I figured that I'd simply order a large rubber grommet but turns out that might be a little pricey. I'm heading over the plumbing department this morning to see what I can dream up. I will put up some pictures as soon as I get the job done.

Looks good Simon, glad you got to it! I set the template up and checked it and the whole process out about 10 times, had 2 beers to ease the nerves of drilling into the fender and had at it, good times:beer:

Here's some pix of a smog legal modified 2F air cleaner assembly hooked to a Safari Snorkel...
