Mmmmmmm. Holley.

This damned thing needed an overhaul very badly from the start. Got the brakes all working good and went on about a 15 mile ride. Stopped to talk to my buddy at the oil change place and it started loading up and flooding out. Got home and popped the hood and fuel was just running out of the butterfly shaft.

I'm not sure I ever had a Holley that ever DIDN'T do something like that within 2 weeks of pulling it out of the box! Many people love them, but I never had one that didn't require constant adjustment or rebuilding........

After spending all day yesterday working on my oldest daughter Heather's car while she was in town I finally got to get the carb back together and put back on. Runs so much nicer and will actually idle down at 650 rpm and stay there. Nice to drive

I've always been a fan of ram mounts but hate the idea of drilling to mount the bases and the suctin cup mounts seem to fall off at the most inopportune times. There was a hole in the dash that had a plug at one time so I just tapped the hole that was already in the base and mounted in that hole. It's solid and now I can nerd out on my maps and GPS stuff.

And now on to the next part of getting this thing really road worthy. I have been driving this thing all over the place, back and forth to work, out to install cabinets and out to measure jobs. IT IS FRIGGING AWESOME. The only other problem that has cropped up is a problem with the brake booster. Sometimes it works and then sometimes it doesn't. I haven't started researching it yet but I do remember something about fluid from a bad master cylinder possibly getting inside the booster and causing issues. Has anyone had this problem before?

Get one of the new reproduction boosters from @Racer65 ($275), install and never worry about it again. Boosters and rebuild kits no longer exist for the 77 FJ-40 (from Toyota or any of the other common sources) , so doing this now is a smart investment in the future of your rig.

I has one too.
