On the K&N....just clean it more frequently than they suggest, don't over-oil as the gurus have mentioned, and, from my experience, it'll give you no problem.
 
I have no experience with a K&H filter, but I know a guy who routinely sends oil samples for analysis and after switching from a stock filter to K&H, the contaminants in his oil samples went way up. I don't know how frequently he cleaned it though.
 
I don't want to have to worry about it, so I just put the stock filter back in. No biggie.

At my current rate of repair and replacement I will have a new 91 FJ80 within 5 years. ;)
