ISO hood venting

'97 80 series with TRD Magnuson belt driven supercharger doesn't like the Nevada summers. ISO sandwich style hood vents that finish off the original hood insulation but functionally exhaust engine bay heat. Thanks for any guidance.

Well, after several weeks of 100+ degree days and a few instances the wife complaining of the truck sputtering, I installed some 95 Grand Prix GTP hood vents. Here's where I got the idea on the installation procedure: Jeep Hood Louvers

Got the vents off Ebay for 65.00. Install went very well. Vents followed the hood lines perfectly and didn't need to cut out any of the hood bracing. Cut out the drip pans to use as a template. Hood cut-outs measured approx. 4" x 12". Bare steel edges were primered with Dupont Variprime using a 1/2" paint brush. Vents are held to the hood...

I was very impressed with the vent job that Steve ("SUMMIT CRUISERS") did to his hood back in July of last year... the '94~'96 Pontiac GTP louvers seemed to match perfectly the lines of the 80 hood. I contacted SUMMIT CRUISERS and asked if he still liked the mod (now that nearly a year had gone by) and would he do it again. He was still completely "sold" on the GTP vent louvers and offered enthusiastic encouragement as I was considering doing the same.

Thanks for the reply. eBay has genuine GM louvers in the $300-$400 range. Cheapy Chinese 3D printing under $30. Eeuuww!

I used Run Cool Hood Louvers in the 11x17 version.

Louvers? Yup, why, back in the day, we didn't have those fancy space-age plastic doohickys and had to punch our own louvers in the hood. Still works though.

Agree. Not the same as tigers but Caught a pile of big Vundu last week on the Zambezi in Moz. Up to about 70 lbs.

You want louvers

I agree louvers are the better option, but I disagree the risers don’t do anything. I have a single louver

over the passenger side and it helps a great deal with the heat soak from the turbo, I also added the risers to see if it helped and it noticeably did with intake temps being monitored. I can see the heat mirage coming out on the hot summer days from the gap created by the spacers. Just my experience.

My turbo only has the solvefunction hood risers. Definitely helps during slow wheeling. The modified blue fan pushed the heat out of the engine bay because of gap.
