is this a good deal for a pig?
hey fellers, im normally posting in the 60s forum but i was driving home tonight and saw an fj55 sittin along the road for sale. they're asking $800 and say it runs and drives well, very reliable. the body has some fist sized rust holes but the interior is clean. whats the going price for one of these pigs? its a 1970 with a 3 on the tree and has the factory winch. didn't get the miles. did they have an F or a 2F. any info would be greatly appreciated:D!

It most likely has a F engine. You need to check for rust in the floor boards just under the driver and passengers feet, the drip rail, rockers, front lower fenders, frame, rear sill, <-- all typical places on a piggie. The drive train is identical to a 40's. the '70 should have drums on all 4 corners, the factory PTO is pretty valuable IMO. check to see if the rear window works. The interior: mostlikly the glove box lid is curled and the dash is cracked both typical.

if the rust isn't crazy and it runs and the interior is good. $800 sounds like a steal. but pics would help a ton.

Rust is pretty much a part of an Fj55's maturity... If the interior is good, and the floorboards arent bad, most of the rust can easily be dealt with. I'll offer half the $800 price for the winch if its original, and not something you want to keep.

three on the tree can easily be converted to floor shift, although I think you'd be better off not bothering with that, driving it as a three on the tree and getting all the parts for a 4 speed...

Get it! if it runs, its worth the $800. I have bought a few pigs for near that that didnt even have motors...

Thanks all. Gonna go look at it in the morning. Let you know if I bought my first pig. :pig: Also will add pics if she comes home with me.

if you pass on it, could you pass along the info to me:D

there is one in Greatfalls I was going to look at this weekend,

went and looked at the 55 a little closer today and I dont think the winch is factory. it has "Rhino Winch" written on it couldn't find any toyota markings on it. If anyones interested in it the guy would more than likey take $600 for it. the doors are in good shape. the F engine runs good. it does have a hellacious exhaust leak in the header. I drove it today and it drove fine, with the exception of the shifting mechanism (three on the tree). if someone needs parts let me know and i'll pick it up if I can get my money back.:D or call the guy. his number is 406-270-8022. pm me if you need pics or help gettin it.
