I'm not sure if was mentioned or not (I did not see it), but bear in mind that the 2F and 2H have the air cleaner on the left side, and the B/3B have it on the right.

I have a left-side Safari snorkle on my 84 FJ40 LX which stated on the box that it suited FJ40/FJ45/HJ45/HJ47. They listed one for the BJ42 as well, but it was a different model number (because it comes out on the right, and goes up the right side of the windscreen).

That pre-cleaner that John has looks just like the one on my father-in-law's HZJ79. These come as standard factory equipment on the 78/79 series down here in the land of Big Brother.

Cheers,

Josh

Josh,
Good hearing from you. This issue came up as I was trying to decide which side to put the snorkle on while at the same time deciding what engine swap to do. I think that the 1HZ has the air box on the left side as well. I decided, after looking at a couple of 1HZs, to put the snorkle on the right and that once the engine swap is done I'll just run flex tube to make the 1HZ airbox connection.
Cheers,
John

no sorry.. for the 3B it's different serial number, because of the long tube you have to put inside the engine bay to connect the filter , because Safari snorkel have no right side snorkel.....only left side :) for FJ40 and BJ42.... ;)

Hope you don't have to remove that air filter housing anytime soon!

All those relays bolted to the side of it would make that a 20 minute unplug job. :D ( and if they are not labeled, a 3 hour replug job!) :bang:

As promised my newly scored OEM head on my new SS snorkel. For those interested in the install of the snorkel and the fitment issues in mating it with the OEM head, there were some, see my build thread for details.

I have read and followed this thread. Fantastic by the way. But wih all the part numbers and available/not available numbers thrown around, I am a bit in need of part numbers. Can you list what umbers you needed t finally get yours made (numbers that still work).
Thanks.
Slickrock

If all you want to do is put an OEM head on an SS snorkel then see the picture in post #20. That gives the part number as stamped on the side of the Toyota box that the head came in. It gets much more tricky if you are looking for the entire OEM, head to air box setup. In sum I have come to the conclusion that if your rig is more than 25 years old, and your local dealer has it in inventory you can use the parts numbers as they appear in the EPC for your rig, that is the numbers in post #2 and #8 for a 40 in the Americas. If it isn't in inventory locally you MAY be able to have them order it from Japan, I wasn't.

it's not my cruiser... :), just a picture to show you :)....

I'm getting my self an FJ40 soon. I really want an OEM snorkel, so are there part numbers for one or do i have to rig up a 70 series OEM snorkel to the 40? Nothing says sweet like having a snorkel that says Land Cruiser on a FJ40 Land Cruiser.:D
You can try FJ depot they can supply the complete OEM Toyota snorkel kit. $$$

Safari still have some snorkels to suit a 3B in stock, the plumbing needs a bit of messing with but other than that the actual snorkels are all the same. I've got the last remaining Safari snorkel to suit a HJ47 in captivity 😁

4wd Systems in South Australia sell a right hand side snorkel for the 3b. It took them about 8 months to get it too me though, they had to get it specially made as the market for 3b snorkels isn't too hot!
I don't think I'm going to install it though, I think I'm going to go the stainless steel route with a 79 series head. I don't feel the plastic snorkel is the right look considering the rest of the car is steel.
