Is there a new Safari Snorkel design

Sure, but why not use a manual antenna where there's already a hole or make the small modification to use the existing power antenna?

I see what you mean, but was that suggestion more for the first model safari snorkel? I was actually referring to the newer model which required the notch cut into the snorkel to have the antenna work, I was wanting to avoid cutting a notch in the snorkel. Maybe the notch isnt all that bad?

Notching is only an option...you can just dent the new design and everything will work fine.

Phil, can you explain what do you mean about "denting" the snorkel?

Take a metal pipe and heat it with a torch, then press the pipe into the snorkel creating a permanent "dent".

haha i am so scared to tamper with the snorkel itself, I am considering returning my snorkel and just getting the old style so I can abandon more mods

My understanding was the "old style" required you to remove the entire electric antenna assembly. Plus, where you going to find it, they only make the latest style.

Removing and changing the antenna is a lot more work then adding a dent. Plus the old style is just that an old style....the new style is a MUCH better design.

If one owns the old style they are forced to talk it up because changing it is going to be costly.:grinpimp:

Don't tell LJ that, he's got a plan!

I will buy it for $350 shipped if it's still new in the box. But wait, you opened it and finger f$%ked it didn't you LJ? :D

I opened it but I did not perform the latter action that you mentioned lol I think I'll jus take out the antenna, install the snorkel and deal with the lack of am/fm radio through my ipod integration lol:D

Smart man, who needs FM when you have a 5-disk changer and iPod.

Post some pics with the snorkel installed with no antenna. I'm curious how it looks with the antenna remove, i.e. does it cover up the hole left behind.

will do!

With new design snorkel looks like you need to dent or notch and patch if you have either auto or manual antenna using stock antenna hole.
Manual antenna was the solution for old design because of interference with air tube inside fender. That tube inside fender is gone with new design as it runs outside fender.
So those who have dented or notched and patched your new style snorkel, what did you use and how well did it work.
Know at least Bighead has done this, what did you do? Enquiring minds want to know.

By the way the notch looks (looking at the picture right now), it looks like he may of used a dremel to make the dent, then sealed it internally with some sealant. I'd be affriad to relocate the antenna and leave the old hole there.

Christo's guys did the install for me.

is it possible to relocate/mount a manual antenna on the driver side fender?

Let me get this straight, you are scared to notch the snorkel, but ok to drill the fender and reroute all the wiring? It's a friggen notch. Mark it, cut it, seal it.

FWIW, the old heat the pipe deal like the old 80 series snorkel does not work good here due to the size of the notch.

Yes, that's LJ for you! :D

lol I dint say I was gonna drill the hole. I think I'll just ask 4wheelparts to install my snorkel and make the notch
