I put a jack under the rear flange of the T-Case.

I know I'm replying to an old thread. I just installed an IPOR Skid Plate yesterday.

I followed this order of the install,

1. Removed rear drive shaft. (edit: optional)
2. Removed the 2 crossmember bolts for the transfer case.
3. Slightly loosened the 8 crossmember bolts.
4. Lifted the IPOR Skid Plate on a transmission jack about 4 inches below stock crossmenber.
5. Secured floor jack under rear flange of the T-Case.
6. Removed stock crossmember.
7. Raised IPOR Skid Plate into place and bolted it in.

Nice, but I don't remember needing to remove the driveshaft.
Did that help with the install? I don't believe it would be necessary for the install.

I'm installing one right now, and you don't need to remove the rear shaft (at least on a relatively stock 80).

IPOR Skid plate mostly installed

:beer:Installed the IPOR skid plate on the 80 series today.
Had the rear tires up on ramps and the front wheels chocked.
The PS 4 bolts required the use of a frame clamp to bring the plate holes into alignment with the LC rail holes.
odd. Is it possible the rails moved / seperated when the crossbar was removed? The DS and trans mnt holes allowed the initial mounting. But to get the PS holes installed required a bar clamp between the outside of the frame rail and skid plate.
ODD..,

When I did mine almost a year ago I put a jack at the very edge of the transfer case/ujoint to make sure it didn't get in the way to support the transfer when unbolting the stock crossmember.

I luckily did not have any alignment problems getting the bolts in.. though it was fun holding it up from the side and getting the first few in :)

Mine lined up well the first time I threw it in.
Has taken quite the beating since!

Spoke w/ Cam @ IPOR regarding plate install

I explained my situation to Cam @ IPOR. Great listener and at the end of my rambling explanation, Cam said loosen the 4 trans. mount bolts (these are above the 2 bolts that connect to the skid plate) and push the trans to the side needing additional clearance. Will post results this Sat.

Regards,
