Man, the lack of attention to detail.
They couldn’t get a new cap for the radiator overflow resevoir?

No clip for the hood support strut?

Jason, did Toyota build this or was this a ghost shop build?

Could find the money to use new connectors?

Grille looks like an aftermarket from Taiwan. One of the ones you have to Dremel the holes to get them to line up.

Toyota but their name on this and signed off? Bush league.

According to the Toyota executives I spoke with only Toyota or TRD are allowed to build their show vehicles now.

The MADE IN CHINA sticker on the AC condenser says it all for me.

Pretty disappointed myself to say the least.

Not even “Made in Taiwan” where they make superconductors. Literally Mainland China, that citadel of craftsmanship.

Guess that build policy was the basis for the Taco Tuesday snub.

What’s with all the hate? Seems weird on a website that is (used to be?) directed toward the hobby type dude.

I think this looks pretty neat. I’m sure Toyota could build whatever they want to the Nth degree and do it better than ANYone else. It seams like they’re showing kind of what a hobby type dude could put together in his garage… I kinda dig the rawness of it. The mix of some old and new, some common hackery, etc.

Not everyone has the skill, resources .. or hundreds of thousands of dollars to put into full custom frames, one off suspensions, bro bumpers and paint restorations… maybe Toyota was pointing this out in a soft way.

I’m sure in years to come these new twin turbo engines will be available in the used market and this build gives an idea of what could be played around with.

I like it

This makes me sleep better knowing my C channels are up to Toyota standards.

This truck will either be crushed afterwards or placed into storage.

I suspect we'll see it on the Toyota promo circuit like the Millen 45, FJ Bruiser, etc. It's a production VIN so they dont have a federal mandate to destroy after x time. Sadly the pre-production LC250 we have at the LCHM is getting smooshed next year BUT the Land Speed 200 is ours forever, as it started life as a VIN 200 and got a 16+ makeover for the launch before becoming a racer.

Released today. On Tuesday 11-4-2025 the executives I spoke to said all issues were resolved with this engine.

Guess not?

Oof…

Are there no longer any car guys in Toyota’s leadership? There used to be a Japanese culture that would have been shamed at these quality issues.

Proffitt did a video of this and the windshield washer reservoir has a jelly jar lid for a cover. In the famous words of Jed Clampett, "pityful, plum pityful"

I don't get the hate either. Toyota spent time and money to resurrect a 60, stuck in a modern powerplant and showed it at SEMA. It's clearly a frame up resto, but yeah, a lot of the details were skipped. But c'mon, SEMA isn't Pebble Beach. The ICE was changed, but everything else is stock, that's pretty cool.

Now, I will say that I don't want a forced induction motor in my 60, especially one they are still working out the kinks. But I also get why the execs aren't going to stick Trail Tailors 3UR 60 up on stage either. As that powerplant isn't sold in anything here anymore, why would the manufacturer build a "new" build using a powerplant they don't sell anymore, and sit a total BEAST 60 next to a LC 250 or even LX550? No one is going to even look at the new trucks.
