Here is an interesting build that showed up for sale on Craigs List .

1977 Toyota FJ40 custom

This a stunning ground up restoration and upgraded FJ40. Fitted with a fuel injected crate 1FZE 4.5 liter straight six 240hp and 5 speed transmission as fitted in 2009 Land Cruisers. All suspension upgraded with Old Man Emu shocks and springs. Pioneer double din stereo and bluetooth. The dash has been upgraded with a late model Land Cruiser assembly. The truck has power steering, cold air conditioning, power disk brakes and rides really nice and smoothly, very easy to drive with light clutch, power steering and brakes. The truck has a Warn winch, Led headlights and big 315/75R16 Toyo Open Country tires, a great fun truck in remarkable condition for sale at half the build cost. Every nut and bolt has been redone. Clean title ready to go inspections welcome.

You will notice a few interesting modifications which is why I thought I would post it so pictures don't get lost . Don't see to many FJ40 crossed with 70's

Doesn't look like they went stupid on anything and kept a certain Land Cruiser feel to it

It looks well done. I like it!

Nice. Toyota should hire the IH8MUD brain trust and create a modern 40.

You know they would never agree on anything, isn't that what started the ICON process ? being asked to come up with a modern FJ and the FJ Cruiser came out on top ?

Not a fan of the 5 studs but I guess that comes with the year of swap parts

Interesting engine swap. It does look well-done for what it is. Not a restoration by any stretch of the imagination though.

This was done many years ago by a member of pakwheel around 05’

I believe there were a few others as well ... this one posted by OP is done very well

Nice build ... the dash fits well

Here’s the one I remember

Saw this a few days ago and was interested in the dash grafting. It appears some surgery to the interior doors was necessary. Appears that some thought went into this, but not sure about the front suspension with 2 stabilizers and the coil placement. I wonder how hard it would be to get a nice-condition LHD FJ70 dash to use in a conversion like that?

As I remember, J. Ward did create a new "retro" FJ40 design for Toyota--red--as well as a V-6 Bandeirante pickup, but both were rejected and the FJ Cruiser was left to be designed by the Calif Toyota design team with some conversations with Marv Spector. May have been some hurt feelings after that episode.

I'd like to see more pictures of these seats folded to the side and the instalation. I think I've got the same seats waiting to go in mine. Anyone know what the rear seats came out of?
