great, just when I thought I was done with adding more junk to my rig.....

Did I read this correctly, can't use the larger size oil filter to due to the axle breather nipple may hit? I have two cases of large oil filters!

The large filter may fit if you orient the adapter more vertical and move the harness connector a bit that is just below the filter, or remove the breather altogether and reroute a breather hose up to the engine compartment (I need to do that myself, just drained my front diff and it was overfull with the typical lumpy black grease/gear oil mix).

Excellent idea. Not sure it's with $90 to avoid wiping off some oil now and then.

Its not why I did it. Its to get rid of the common starting knock especially on a really expensive rebuild.

Gotcha. I meant for me. Too many pricey mods ahead of this. ;)

Hahaha. It was easy to focus on this to prevent myself from spending a ridiculous amount of money on the next mod. I have way too many I am in the middle of and I'm trying to get the :princess: to start :bounce2: my  again. Right now all I get is :meh: because I can't stop :wrench: on my :steer:. I even ask for a little ;p but instead I get .

Hey, make me a 180deg adapter for a 3FE! I wish I could understand why the put a top-mounted filter on this motor. It is impossible to NOT make a mess during oil changes. Crazy design...but what do I know?

Lmao!!!

you guys have any pics of this installed using the big filter? I'm using the Wix replacements for the big filter and about to order this.

thx in advance!

Cheers,
Mike

Just ordered one of these from Summit. Tearing my head off in prep for the supercharger install so might as well add this while I can.

This and the CDL switch were my first mods a month after I got my FZJ!
Makes the filter change so much easier, especially because I can get an oil filter wrench/socket thing on there and a good extension to remove and lightly tighten. And of course I am able to prime the filter before installing.

Just my $0.02 on this old thread come back to life!

Recently I tried using the large filter with the 90 degree adapter but it would not fit, the bottom of the filter bumped into the harness connector that's bolted to the main oil pan at that location. It should fit if that connector was repositioned. FWIW.

I installed this system back in 2004 and it works great. Filter are mounted between the front bumper and radiator core. Easily accessible.

Looks nice. Did you have a local shop make custom hoses or did it come with correct hoses?

What are you oil change intervals now?

All fittings and hose comes with the kit, and I installed it myself. I change the oil and regular filter every 10,000 miles (Mobil One filter and oil) and the bypass filter I change every two years. The Cruiser isn't a day driver anymore, so the yearly mileage is less than 10,000 miles.
