I have an 88 FJ62 and I've bit by bit ran new ground wires to the ground location on the drivers side pillar. But I still have the symptoms of bad ground wires for things such as the heater fan, washer fluid switch, dimming dash lights, etc. All the weird things that happen.
My question is what is a permanent fix or upgrade. I'm willing to remove the dash or whatever to run wires where needed. I'm not an expert on electrical issues but I have the diagrams and can usually figure things out. Since it's such a common problem I'm wondering what solutions you guys here have come up with?

Thanks!

This would be a good start, but tracing the grounds for each component affected to its nearest ground point would be prudent.

Ok. When I did my body off frame work I replaced and added new grounding straps in all places. It could be just one ground from one component that's affecting everything. But as far as you know there's no common culprit to focus on?

There are a couple of ground buses behind the instrument cluster that can get corroded or (as in my case) burnt by a short circuit. Each of those buses ground several circuits, so if there's resistance at one of the connectors, it can cause all kinds of weird and wonderful problems.

I'll see if I can find a pic of what I'm talking about.

Here ya go. See that orange connector? That's a common ground bus. It's also burnt. I fixed it by removing the plastic bottom of the connector, extracting the male multi-prong connector, cleaning it up, reinstalling and re-wrapping with e-tape. After doing that, my weird electrical symptoms went away.

Alright that's good clue, thanks. I'll check that out. I appreciate it.
