I see that they are being built in Wales, would have been cool if they had a US factory, a factory tool would have been cool.

Also a bummer that the engine coming to the US will not have a diesel option :(

They moved the manufacturing to MB Smart facility in France. This was different than the original plans.

Dumb move on their part. Bridgend was supposed to be the facility to bring defender enginers and builders on board. Now they have smart car guys. I was looking forward to touring the plant.
He got in a tiff with land rover when they said he couldn't acquire the rights to the OG defender design and moved.

Anyone reserving one?

Negative, lol. Are you?

I love bmw, but I don't want a bmw driveline in an offroad rig.

On the fence. The bmw drivetrain is the big question mark. The reservation is 100% refundable.

The USA configurator is back up and running. Amazing what is offered from the factory. It does appear the fold up third row windows have disappeared as choice.

GOSH DARN IT. Why is there a screen? Fumble on the 1 yard line.

4 easily replaceable and configurable needle sweep gauges sitting up there showing vitals is all you need. An easily replaceable, cheap, double DIN radio for tunes and a camera/screen IF YOU WANT ONE is all that was needed. Gauge pod WITH gauges is $100 and a brand name radio is $200. And that is full retail. I bet they could get it for half that.

A Dakota digital (or similar) tach/speedo behind the steering wheel.

For the life of my I can't figure out why they talk and talk and talk about 'going against the grain' and getting back to roots and wanting to make something robust and rugged and reliable and then do the opposite? Why? Cheap, proven, configurable options exist on the shelf RIGHT NOW to meet their stated goals? Why not do it?

Drill and tap for oil pressure gauge, pull a tach signal from the computer, pull volts off the Alt, find a spot for a water temp sender, and a boost gauge. Even I could do that.

I know someone you had a position in one. No telling when they will deliver.

I agree that they should just supply it with analog gauges and a basic double din head unit mounted up high for better visibility.

It will be interesting to see what a boon doggle this will become.

Drove one of these bad boys today at OEX (near from El Dorado Outpost). We went on really mild trails but with the rain they were sloppy enough for me to come away impressed. I fear these are going to be topping 70k by the time they hit the streets of the US and that just seems excessive; then again I still can't come to grips with current automotive prices.

I love it but I fear you're right, it'll be unaffordable to the masses by the time all is said and done.

The cool factor is high but for whatever reason the front end just seems way too old / funky to me. The interior could use a bit of work too but that’s me who ordered a Yukon Denali for the lux!

Current car prices are crazy. Also, car manufacturers are raising prices, selling fewer cars and making more money. The pricing guys must burning up the price elasiticity calculator. It going to be interesting where these car prices go. Add in the largest wealth transfer of all time and these prices could get even further out of hand.

I still like it. I just think it will easily be 75k or more.

Thanks for those candid pics....cool to see!

I can't fault car prices (even though I hate it)

If the masses quit paying, then the prices would come down quick.
We are our worst enemy.

Would you get the Grenadier or a top line 4 door hard top all the options Rubicon Xtreme with factory 35" tires?

They should have gone more downmarket...everyone can make an expensive offroader....they are everywhere.

A naturally aspirated large displacement 6 cylinder, 4 mechanical gauges, a $200 pioneer double din head unit, and a manual trans option. No need for 17 ECU controlled drive modes, and no 'toot' button or other nick-naks.

So starting price is 71k up to a reported 85kish.

I think they missed the mark on this big time. Announced as the spiritual successor to classic defender.
The classic defenders last year of production 2016 had prices starting at 21k GBP around 28k USD at the time. A nicely equipped 110 model was about 35k USD. Granted they weren't for sale in the US at that time.
The Grenadier is now about the price ultra luxo SUVs range rover, defender, LX570(wait is there a newer model) but will drive no-where near as nice on the road.and I'd say it's a toss up stock vs stock as to if it can outwheel them. I've driven the stock RR and the new defender on some pretty impressive stuff, and the RR drove it with supreme comfort, at the PNW overland rally which im sure the Grenadier could also do but im not sure it could out perform it. Now modified that depends on the aftermarket support. Hell if you want an ultra luxo suv with a solid axle.the Gwagen is right in that price point also with a nice selection of motors.

Seriously though I can't see 99% of the people who actual want to wheel and buy a new vehicle pay that much more over a Rubicon or a diesel 4 door jeep.

It's a cool looking vehicle but at that price point I'd buy a nice ls or diesel highly modified 110 defender and still have cash left over. Or a 1HDFTE swapped troops.

Hell we just sold my bros diesel D90 for 26k. I'd much rather buy that dump in 25k in mods and pocket the rest.

I am. The release of the pricing configurator put me at 93,300.

Pricing team probably saw this and was like rasie the price and keep the numbers low so we can be successful with the roll out.

Built this in excel.

List Price$ 50,000$ 90,000
Units10,0005,000
Total$ 500,000,000$450,000,000

I agree with Al, I think the price is too high however I am not a new car buyer and I would find a mint LHD 100 series turbo diesel and import it and bank the rest. I prefer Toyota reliability, split rear tailgate, and turbo diesel power.

I am now trying to wrap my head around the buyer persona. My friends with new range rovers, tahoes, lexi, rubicons, broncos, etc, have not even mentioned it and most do not know it exists at all. And for all of them, the spartan interior will not resonate. They all want the latest comfort in their vehicles and life.
